Today is a day of remembrance. The last twelve months have been incredibly challenging for our community, but nothing will ever compare to the grief and pain of those who lost loved ones or the suffering of those who died without peace in their hearts.

Today, we share our hearts with you.

There are still so many unknowns for all of us. And the struggle is real. But Maui will always be a sacred place. Maui will rebuild.

For those still facing uncertainty and pain, pray every day that that we all find a way to connection and renewal.

For the children whose lives were disrupted we pray every day that your resources and strength endure.

For the Kanaka of Maui, we pray that this land is returned and eternally prospers as it was intended and endowed.

Thank you to everyone here who showed us their profound support and love during and after the fire.

Your beauty and care truly healed.

Left Right Design is the business of our friend Samantha Scamen.

We always loved her art prints and stickers but when she started designing kids games, she became the Queen of our Keiki section!!

All of her art work is so playful and happy! Who can’t smile at a snorkeling pineapple or skateboarding llama sticker?

If we could picks a new headline for the last three weeks, “ALOHA HEALS” would be the lead story.

The whole world has watched as Hawaiians set the the highest example of how to care for one another. It says everything about how we live here and why the world loves us so much.

Amy puts all of that aloha into her products and into her business! She sharing the aloha and spreading the sunshine at the farmer’s markets or creating incredible sound healing sessions for the community.

She had the generosity to hold one last week for everyone here who had been through the fires. I can’t thank her enough.

Make sure to follow her and support her. Her products make the most amazing gifts for people who love Maui and are an amazing healing tool for these times.

I haven’t had the chance to properly acknowledge and thank Billy and Angie of .

For anyone who loved the vibes at Sunshine Market, a big part of that was because we were working with our friends all day.

We met very spontaneously.
I cold-called them on Sunday after someone came in with an “ummmm, I tried something yesterday and you NEED to get it.”

Angie answered the phone herself, and by the end of the week, we had a freezer full of 400 ice cream sandwiches, a menu in the window, and a line out the door. On the second day, we all agreed we loved selling ice cream because it just makes people so happy.

I hope you all have people like this in your life. They work their tails off with diligence and integrity, deliver quality with total consistency and zero drama, and will bring their mom to meet you when she’s in town. More importantly, somehow no matter what we’re talking about — business, politics, or cookie flavors — it always felt like we were laughing.

Since the fires, they have stepped up for the community in so many ways. We have been texting every day, helping to organize services for people, sharing information, and just grieving together. When they found out my car burned in the fire, they literally just gave me a vehicle to help me through the transition.

We will miss being the ones to serve you their treats in Lahaina. But you can visit them in person at the Maalalea Wharf location. If you’re not on the island, just click and shop online for their cookies and bake-at-home mixes (my fave)!

When we were leaving Lahaina on Tuesdays, we came to an intersection that was fully blocked. We could see firefighters on the road in front of us. They were circling something on the ground but we couldn’t tell what was happening. There was no sign of fire and no sign of an accident. We were three cars deep and just couldn’t determine what was going on. When we saw one call out for water, we immediately jumped out.

When I was leaving Sunshine Market, I somehow knew that I needed to be prepared and that I was probably never going back. I had filled the car with important things like baskets of bottled water, food, blankets….and irrational items like painters tape and power cords.

We had water and when we got to the men, we saw that one of their crew was lying on the Highway unconscious and not breathing. It was unclear how he even got there or what his injuries were.

We helped cool his body with the water and reassure his team. We all waited for the medics to arrive.

He was breathing when he left.

I just got the news last night that he’s alive and was told about his treacherous accident. I hope I get to meet him some day.

I also got the news that our dear friend’s brother, who is the retired fire chief of Lahaina was also evacuated to Oahu after sustaining burns fighting the fire.

The faces of the young men there on the highway with their friend will forever stay in my heart. I hug them every day in my mind.

This morning I connected with one of my favorite local moms and customers. She’d walk Front Street with her stroller on the mornings and we would talk story and share sunshine.

We were both so relieved to reconnect this week.

This morning, I sent her some $ support.

4 minutes later the exact same amount came back to me.

Let the world know that this type of exchange is how the people here live everyday.

Let’s all be reminded that this is how our loving exchanges of giving world. I’m the seen world and unseen world.

This is important!
I’m not sure what it took ten days but people on the west side can now get reliable wifi.

People need to remember that internet service is not a luxury item. At this point in our society, it’s how we work, communicate and manage every aspect of our lives.

People on the west side just faced immense loss. Not being able to manage their lives, communicate with loved ones, handle their banking, business and health care is so disempowering especially at a time like this.

We went to the check point with a starlink wifi system last Friday and weren’t let in.

I’m not aiming to be contentious, but ten days?

When I was running the shop, I could get almost anything I needed from the mainland in 2-5 (and that was without military support)
