The Wall of Marshall Fire Family Wishes!
As we all vividly remember, on 12/30/21, the Marshall Fire blazed through our community in an unpredictable manner causing over 1000 homes and structures to be mostly lost and many others badly damaged.
In July of 2022, Local Goods Colorado participated in a small piece of the giving back to those families when we hosted the space - and distributed for - , a local woman-owned interior plantscaping business, who gifted hundreds of plants to verified Marshall Fire families — to bring life into — and to brighten — their new or temporary homes.
We were humbled and moved by the stories of each family. The depth of emotions we felt with them still sit with us. So many conversations play over our heads and how amazed we were that they showed up with such gratitude for a plant. Something new to care for and take home.
We decided as we met the families and heard their stories, that we wanted to try to gift them a house-warming gift, from a local maker, as a token of community love. Something they picked out to begin their life back with.
They gave us their wishes and shared their stories. We attempted to fundraise for a couple months and received a handful of donations (thank you!) but we found that the community was a bit tapped out at that particular time.
Fast forward to now. We have been saving a portion of our proceeds each month to gift as many wishes as we can and many makers have brought us donations. With the closing of our store for now, we are working really hard at delivering these wishes to these families over the next 2 weeks.
Please come in and read the stories of 54 verified families - and read their wishes. Even their wishes tell more to their story.
Thank you to everyone who has already donated, early on and even today! If you are moved to donate to a family’s wish we can still accept it — however — no obligation. Just stop in. Read their stories. From many of their updates, they are still facing so many challenges. I told them they haven’t been forgotten - and it’s meant the world to them. Truly.
Our community is pretty amazing — we’ve seen that close up and personal. ❤️🩹
