True crime listeners, it's time to listen to us. We’re hosting Bryan J. McCann, a LSU professor, at CHB Lafayette on June 13 at 3 p.m. for a reading and signing of his book *The Bundy Archive: Genealogies of White Masculinity.*

From the publisher: *The Bundy Archive* is the first scholarly study to investigate the deep, unsettling allure of Bundy within the public imagination. Working at the intersection of cultural criticism, true crime, and memoir, author Bryan J. McCann argues that Bundy’s ubiquity is not a function of his depravity and strangeness, but of his familiarity and resonance. McCann considers cultural artifacts, rhetoric, and popular texts surrounding Bundy—collectively constructing what he terms “the Bundy archive”—and demonstrates how these elements reveal public anxieties about and investments in white masculinity and gendered violence.

If you're ready to jump down the rabbit hole with us, make sure to RSVP through Bon Temps Tix and pre-order a signed copy now! Copies will be available through Bon Temps Tix until 11:59 p.m. on June 12. General admission tickets will be available up to the event itself or until sell out – tickets are free, and we love a good headcount!

We are halfway through 2026, and our booksellers are sharing their favorite reads from the year (so far) with you throughout the month of June!

At ☀️CHB Lafayette☀️, Lauren’s top read (so far) is 🏰This Kingdom Will Not Kill Me🗡️ by Ilona Andrews!

Check out what Lauren has to say about the novel 🏰📖🗡️:

If you loved *Inkheart* as a kid, and grew up to read or watch *Outlander* and *Game of Thrones* -- you're going to vibe well with this novel! Our 21st-Century main character, Maggie, wakes up in Book 1, Chapter 1 of her favorite (unfinished) fantasy trilogy, and retains all the knowledge of the plot and characters. She meets her favorite and least favorite characters, dies a few times, and uses her knowledge as leverage to go from impoverished to noble. One of my favorites of 2026! I can't wait to see how this series will shape out.

We had a blast hosting Shannon Terry Wiley in the bookshop this week!

Shannon was joined on stage with her former student, Nicole Blazek, to chat about 💛Yellow September💛, a heartwarming story of love, loss, and perseverance that chronicles the experiences of those in Shreveport during the 1873 yellow fever outbreak.

💛Yellow September💛 sold out during the event! Order your copy through our website or stop in store to order 📖

📖Fun Facts Learned from this Event:

💛It was originally scheduled for April, but we had to postpone because of shipping delays – a portion of the crates went overboard while crossing the ocean, but Shannon’s books made it!

💛The Pope just bought a copy of Shannon’s book!

Happy Release Day and join us at CHB Lafayette as we host local author Stephanie Fournet in celebration of *Spicy Ever After* on June 10 at 5:30 p.m.!

Stephanie will be in conversation with Lindsey Gutierrez, co-host of the podcast *Read Me Like One of Your Books.*

Make sure to RSVP through Bon Temps Tix! Copies of *Spicy Ever After* will be available at the event. General admission tickets will be available up to the event itself or until sold out – tickets are free, and we love a good headcount!

We can’t wait!

📖💙📖🧡📖💚📖

Stephanie returns to our shelves with *Spicy Ever After,* a romance novel set locally that involves neurodivergent themes and rediscovering passion.

💙Hattie Mercier’s neurotypical family are too normie to appreciate the magical hum of a sewing machine, the silky seduction of buttery carbs, or not-so-silent interior monologues. As the only neurospicy member of the family, Hattie has always felt like she’s too big, too loud, and too much.

🧡Beck Olivier has spent the last two years with the world on his shoulders. Between harvesting acres of sweet potatoes, keeping the family farm afloat, and caring for his dad, he barely has time for the passion project that might actually save them. And zero time for a social life._

💚If she hadn’t been crying in that restaurant’s back alley, he might have stood a chance. But twenty minutes with the stunning, funny, and unfiltered Hattie, and Beck’s life may never be the same.

Evelyne M. Bornier is stopping by CHB Lafayette on June 07 at 1 p.m. for a Q&A moderated by Margaret M. Marshall (who co-authored *Parcours Louisianais* with Evelyne)!

Evelyne, the Endowed Alumni Professor of French at Auburn University, will be discussing her latest work, *Pays d’en haut, pays d’en bas,* with Margaret, a specialist in Creole languages and Louisiana French, on the CHB stage! The collection, whose title translates to “The Upper Country, the Lower Country,” is one that D.A. Kress describes as “a meditation on personal and devastating loss... and on the rebirth of a people’s soul.”

Je vais, l’âme apaisée par le sublime azur,
Sous le ciel triomphal, vaste et d’un bleu si pur.
Au loin, la lande s’étale en touches mystiques,
Et le silence est habité d’hymnes prophétiques.

We can’t wait to hear Evelyne read clips like these and discuss her collection with Margaret!

Make sure to RSVP through Bon Temps Tix! Copies of *Pays d’en haut, pays d’en bas* will be available at the event. General admission tickets will be available up to the event itself or until sold out – tickets are free, and we love a good headcount!

Bonne Lecture!

We’re kicking off our summer season by celebrating Rachel M. Marsh and Lindsey Duga!

Recently at CHB Lafayette, Rachel launched her newest Middle Grade title, “Grandpere’s Ghost Swamp,” and Lindsey joined her on stage to chat about what it’s like to write for our middle grade and high school readers!

Rachel’s middle grade book is a cozy ghost story about family, environmental activism, food, and friendship for our readers ages 8+. It follows Basil Theriot, who has spent her life in New Orleans at her family’s Cajun restaurant but has never been to the bayou where her grandfather grew up, and her best friend Tommy, who is determined to be a ghost hunter. But then Grandpere’s ghost appears and has a mission for Basil: reconnect with her Cajun heritage.

If you’re looking for some summer reading books, check out Rachel and Lindsey’s titles at the bookshop!

In honor of the release day of Jesmyn Ward’s *On Witness and Respair,* we’re sharing a throwback to September of 2025! We partnered with UL Lafayette’s English Department’s Levy Humanities Series to welcome Jesmyn and have her books available for her author talk at Angelle Hall ☀️📖

☀️Quick Clip from the Blurb: Every bit as piercing and moving as her fiction, *On Witness and Respair* is a testament to Ward’s powers as “one of America’s finest living writers” (San Francisco Chronicles) and is a monument to hope, beauty, and personal and collective resilience.

📖 Jesmyn’s titles are available at the bookshop!
