‼️‼️YOUR OPINION ISN’T A STANDARD.‼️‼️

One of the biggest problems in the flooring industry is that too many people confuse personal preference with professional guidance.

“Hardwood is the only real floor.”
“Tile is the best floor.”
“LVP is junk.”
“Laminate is garbage.”

Or my personal favorite:
“I’ve been doing it this way for 30 years and never had a problem.”

Customers don’t need our opinions.
They need education.

Every flooring product has strengths.
Every flooring product has weaknesses.

- Hardwood.�- Tile.�- Laminate.�- LVP.�- Carpet.

None of them are perfect.

The best floor isn’t the one we personally like. It’s the one that best fits the customer’s home, lifestyle, expectations, and budget.

A family with three dogs, two kids, and a pool may need something completely different than a retired couple building their forever home.

Real professionals explain the pros and cons.

They discuss tradeoffs.

They educate.

They don’t sell their preferences as facts.

The industry gets better when we stop trying to win arguments and start helping consumers make informed decisions.

That’s what expertise looks like.

🔥 🔥 Education Matters 🔥 🔥

A common misconception in flooring is that “expansion gap” means leaving large visible gaps everywhere.

It doesn’t.

Manufacturer requirements, NWFA guidelines, and skilled installation practices all recognize that floors need room to expand and contract. However, visible cuts around pipes, floor vents, door jambs, stair posts, and other exposed areas should still be clean and professional.

The goal is simple:

✔ Allow the floor to move properly.

✔ Keep visible cuts tight and aesthetically pleasing.

Expansion space should be concealed whenever possible beneath baseboards, quarter round, transitions, or other trim details. Oversized visible gaps are not a requirement of a properly installed floor.

Good craftsmanship is finding the balance between performance and appearance.

A quality floor should not only function correctly for years to come, it should also look clean and intentional from day one.

🤔I always find it interesting when people say: 🤔

“Hardwood is the best floor. Everything should be hardwood.”

✅ Is it beautiful?
Absolutely.

✅Can it last for generations?
Absolutely.

But flooring isn’t that simple.
A floor has to fit the home, the conditions, and the budget.

Take a concrete slab, for example.

Many people don’t realize that 3/4” solid hardwood typically can’t be installed directly over concrete.
Now you’re talking about:

✔ Moisture testing
✔ Moisture mitigation
✔ Plywood installation
✔ Additional prep work
✔ Then the hardwood installation itself

Thousands of dollars can be spent before the first board is installed.

This isn’t an argument against hardwood.
I love hardwood.

But I also love using the right product for the right situation.

The best floor isn’t always hardwood.

The best floor is the one that fits the home.
