Update on needs at fairgrounds for animals and people that have been evacuated- Info from OSU Extension service team:
We are currently good on animal food, shavings, and bowls. Please do not bring more at this time. We DO need kitty litter and small tray-like pans that can fit in their crates. A few more manure rakes and scoop shovels would be helpful too.
Most pressing needs:
Donate cash to the fire evacuees fund at Ezell Suty Fuel. This is for gas for the folks bringing in animals. Some have made many trips between Sprague Rier and the fairgrounds hauling animals and hay.
Donate to the animal care fund at Goodell Vet clinic at 140/ 39 intersection. There is a fund for the fire evacuated animals there. This way if someone;s animal gets hurt, they don't get a vet bill on top of everything else they are dealing with.
The crew humbly asks for donations of water, gatorade, etc for the volunteers taking care of animals. Some of the 4H kids have spent 8-10 hours today taking care of strangers' animals!
Lastly, toiletries and hygiene items that are easy to forget when folks are grabbing the most important things and leaving their homes: toothpaste and toothbrushes, wet wipes for quick face washes, mouthwash, feminine products, diapers.
Please bring items to the complex of livestock barns behind the arena at the fairgrounds. Please do not bring to the fair office.
Please don't bring clothes and household goods at this time. There will be a need for those things, but we are focused on the animals and immediate needs of evacuating families at this time.
Thank you so much, Klamath Community, for the outpouring of generosity and care you are showing with your time and donations. The entire Extension Staff is humbled and grateful for what we are seeing play out at the fairgrounds. Thank you so much for your support.
