Amazon Seller Price Gouging: How to Report It
At a time like this so many people and organizations are acting in a selfless and giving way. Unfortunately others are taking advantage of this time to get inflated prices for products. We saw hand sanitizer bottles, masks, and toilet paper become hoarded and some reselling for huge financial gain. Recently I needed a we**am to help someone transition from face-to-face teaching to online teaching. High quality cameras are being bought from major suppliers like Best Buy and CDW for $199 and resold on Amazon for $449 - 499. Amazon is policing sellers that price gouge, but they need your help to be aware of the offending sellers. Consider taking the steps below to report offending sellers.
Process to report to Amazon of price gouging:
1. Scroll to close to the bottom of page then select "Help."
2. Select "Need More Help?" and "Contact Us."
3. Select "Continue your chat."
4. Enter into chat line "Price Gouging."
5. Select "Ok, Get help over chat" to get to live agent.
6. Describe the price gouging in terms of full product name, MSRP (Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price), and Amazon seller asking price.
7. Include a link to the product that shows the inflated price.
Typically the agent will respond with some clarifying questions and a statement that it will be escalated to the team that investigates price gouging before ending the chat.
Thank you for doing your part to hold sellers accountable for their decisions.
