Happy New Year. Thank you all for choosing Pop's for your Penn, Shimano and Daiwa Reel Repairs. There are some major changes in both the Availability and Pricing of replacement parts. I feel it's necessary for all of you know what's going on.
Shimano: First, Shimano has started charging Outrageous Freight charges on Parts. For example 4 Ball Bearings sent in a 5x7 Padded Envelope has a $26 Freight Charge. Shimano has no explanation to how Freight is Calculated. Foreign Tariffs? More important is their lack of availability or cancellation of stocking older Spinning Reel Parts. Some only 7 or 10 years old especially Stradic and Sustain. Daiwa: Tremendous Price Increase on parts, very slow shipping and unavailability of older parts. For example, if you need a Main Gear for the very popular BG (not old BGs) Series, a "Gear Set" will cost minimum $35 plus shipping. Delivery Time about Two Weeks!
That's what's out there Folks. Expect to pay $20 for a $5 Bearing.

Hey Folks, this is Captain Paul (Pop) just wanted to update a few things. Pop's will now only repair Penn, Shimano and Daiwa and possibly some old Ambassadeurs. Absolutely no Freshwater Baitcasters or Fly Reels. Off brand parts are hard to get and many manufacturers have started using "microscopic" jewelry screws and parts that rust. Depending on Parts Required delivery of parts can be 7 Days to over 2 Weeks. I have a significant amount of some parts for old Penn Conventional Reels (Long Beach, Penn Peer and Monofil lines, also 85, 155, 200, 140, 500). FYI Shimano is starting to discontinue parts for many popular spinning reels including Stradic. My Service Pricing (Plus Parts) is as follows:

Spinning and Small Conventional $20
Two Speed Conventional $35
Single Speed Penn International $35
Drilling Screws (Per Screw) $5
Reels on Rod or Butt $5
Electramate or LP Reels $50
(Only Reel Repair no Motor Repairs)
Complete Breakdown, Cleaning, Repair Labor and Re-Lube.
Turnaround Time is all based on Workload and Parts Requirements.

I want to thank all my customers for help in making Pop's the respected business it has become. I now only repair Penn, Shimano and Daiwa. I will also do work on Abu Ambassadeur Reels on a case by case basis. No Electric Reels and no Freshwater Baitcasting Reels. Very limited Parts Sales. On the subject of Parts. All manufacturers are very slow in shipping Part Orders. It can take up to two weeks for some orders. In addition Shimano in particular is not supporting spare parts on many, many popular models. Turnaround on repairs can be as fast as several days or two weeks or more. Contact me for repairs and lots and lots of free technical advice. Looking for to servicing your reels and getting you out fishing. Phone is (252) 256-2108.

Well I've come to think that Facebook is a bunch of computer bullies. Somehow they entered an advertising campaign for this site where you pay for each like. They set the per hit charge at something like $1.50 with a $10 limit each day. Whatttttttttttt? That's a potential of $300 a month. And they started billing my Paypal account. I have no clue how they got that. Naturally, my contact with them is a joke. My Facebook contact point is Hilario. Actually his answers were Hilarious. All "Corporate Fluff" and "Scripted Responses". I was able to shut it down after incurring $28. What idiot (not me) would pay that much for a non internet, non mail order, home based, local, business with local customers. Dare County only has 35,000 year round residents and what percentage really need reels fixed? Oh well, live and learn.
