Fair Tide Thrift Store was honored to participate in TEDxPortsmouthâs closing fashion show on May 8th at The Music Hall! Inspired by Jennifer Mooreâs 2023 TEDx talk, âThe Future of Fashion is Secondhand,â Jennifer returned as this yearâs Ideas In Action Honoree, bringing the conversation around reuse and sustainability to life through an entirely secondhand live runway show styled by local businesses, nonprofits, thrift stores, and creators from across the Seacoast.
Our two featured looks pictured here were created entirely from secondhand and upcycled materials, modeled by Delia Hartley and Emma Lemont. Throughout the winter and early spring, our store hosted a community display dedicated to reuse and wearable art, inviting makers of all ages to create original garments from recycled and thrifted materials. Seeing these designs come to life and celebrating them on the TEDx runway was such a special moment.
Thank you to everyone who helped make this possible:
⢠TEDxPortsmouth for creating such an inspiring community event centered around this yearâs theme, âUnchartedâ
⢠Jennifer Moore, aka Recovergirl, for championing secondhand fashion and inviting us to participate
⢠Delia Hartley and Emma Lemont for designing and modeling
⢠Swell House for upcycling Deliaâs coat
⢠Breslin, who is only 10 years old, for sewing Deliaâs skirt by hand
⢠Emma Lemont for sewing her own outfit
We are so grateful to be part of a community that celebrates creativity, sustainability, and the power of giving materials a second life!
