There aren’t a ton of demos out there of the Spectrum 5, fewer still of its stereo functionality. For those that don’t know the Spectrum 5 can be used in mono mode like a normal guitar or in stereo mode where the bass strings are sent to one output and the treble strings to a second output.

My recording abilities are fairly limited so this is just the guitar straight into an interface using garage band to record both tracks at once with Yonac Inc. ToneStack Pro as an AU3 on each track.

For this short demo of I have run the bass strings through a sub octave and envelope filter with a vibro champ style amp sim and some plate reverb and soft panned it to the right. The treble strings are running through a compressor, a light drive a showman style amp and plate reverb and soft panned left.

Sometimes I still work on guitars. This vintage Peavey T-15 from my buddy Greg Kanan is in for a new pick guard and some fresh shielding. Should be nice and quiet now.

There’s only one holiday better than new guitar day and that’s bucket list new guitar day!

I’ve been wanting a Teisco Spectrum 5 for many years and I finally made it happen. I wanted a 90s reissue because the general consensus is that they’re consistently better made than the 60s originals and less prone to parts failure since they’re so much younger. I specifically wanted one in the metallic blue finish. After missing the boat on a few that popped up (mostly not in the color I wanted but I would have settled at the right price) because I was still selling gear to make it financially feasible. It was all for the best though as I ended up finding the year and color I wanted and it’s very clean. The only thing keeping me from calling it mint is one very small knick in the finish on the back.

I haven’t had much time to play with it yet but I hope to remedy that soon. I can’t wait to get weird with the stereo functionality. The little time I have put in has me positively smitten.

One day I’d like to get an original 60s version but for now this will certainly more than keep me happy.

The USPS should be ashamed of itself. From “expected delivery Monday 4/6” to “arriving late” with no updates in 6 days. Shameful. And of course it’s on the first pedal I’ve shipped without full coverage insurance 🤦‍♂️. It’s like they’ve been watching and waiting for me to not pay for extra insurance so they could lose one of my pedals.

Last night I finished up 5 Szik Sniper PCBs and got one of them all boxed up and did a blind bias. It was early today by the time I finished so it’s dated accordingly. Tonight I’ll put the final touches on getting the bias dialed in and then this one is going to of , one of my favorite bands for many years now. I do so love when I’m able to put one of my pedals in the hands of musicians I love. , get at me if you find yourself jealous of Jake’s new toy.

20 germanium transistors in measured an tested sets of 4, ready to be permanently soldered onto 5 Szik Sniper boards. This is the last step before boards get boxed up and are ready to rock. I spent a couple of hours last night making sure each set plays well together and dialing the bias for each set so each pedal sounds as consistent as possible. Over the course of the session I got more of a feel for how to quickly dial the biases so in the future I hope to spend no more that 5-10 minutes on any given set before moving on to the next.

Testing and labeling germanium transistors when Over The Edge came on. I’ll never forget this event. One of the great tragedies in professional wrestling.

Taking a break from building pedals tonight to get one of my favorite guitars ready to do some recording this weekend. Watching some vintage (late 90s) wrestling and working on an even more vintage (late 70s) Memphis MG-300.

Bonus points to anyone who can tell what PPV I’m watching based on the screen in the background.
