15 years ago, while waiting for a pizza, I wandered into a used bookstore that was teetering on the edge of closure. I still don’t fully understand the subconscious wrangling that led me to believe that I could “turn it into something” despite never having worked in a bookstore or owned my own business. Plus,I had 4 children under the age of 7. That was how Half Moon Books came into existence. Wild times!!

Here I am,15 years later, having done all I set out to do and then some. It is time to shift and change. I have read enough books to know how hard it is to get the ending right, but I am going to try.

Half Moon Books will close our Kingston store on December 31st, 2024.

This was not an easy decision to make because I’m not retiring or being priced out of Uptown (in fact, shout out to my landlord - she was one of my biggest supporters in this endeavor by being so reasonable). However, my heart is pulled to other ways of bookselling.

We will spend the next 3 months celebrating our time here with the community that made Half Moon such a great place to pop in. We are forever grateful for the support of Kingston and Ulster County booklovers. We never would have made it this far without you.
