SOOOO...
I might be in love with BFD again.
I installed a new recording studio in my living room and needed BFD for in there (brand new machine...brand new installs). I didn't even think about it, just saved the expansion packs I couldn't install from their site?? And just ERASED EVERYTHING ELSE. I already downloaded the install files (swore I would NEVER do...because I'VE BEEN HERE THE WHOLE TIME...you change EVERYTHING and I now have to REINSTAL...1.27 TB....YES TERRABYTES...of expansions?? I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING WRONG...AND IT WAS WORKING FINE)...

But SCREW IT...already had to install in the other room...let's see if THE NEW INSTALLERS put everything in a PLACE AND ORDER that BFD can read easier and according to ANY new "formatting"...

32 packs installed, just fired up...scanned the new files, no more errors on loading saying "non-registered pieces" only to show me EVERYTHING IS "FINE AND REGISTERED"...so, I play and no crashes, several kit loadings, no problems (yet)...the photos all match the pieces (however, so far only the ACTUAL BFD expansions are installed...rest of the 3rd party ones coming TODAY)...and it even seems to play smoother?? The more recent expansions seem to bog down and gum things up...load slowly, especially compared to the older packs?? I thought it may have been the "over micing" of everything??

In the end? It KINDA makes sense.
I've been with BFD since it was "Big Fu***ng Drums" and PROUD!!! ONE OF THE REASONS I LOVE IT SOOO FU***NG MUCH!!! THEY WEREN'T AFRAID!!
BFD and it's subsequent owners have since come up with a NEW, more compressed (but still great sounding) compression scheme called BFDFlacc? Or something like that? Lossless quality, smaller size.

If EVERYTHING continues to go this well, I will be a HAPPY MAN again. I probably WILL NOT buy anymore Alesis Drums or even BFD 4. I DO NOT like the "ToonTrack and EVERYONE ELSE" copycat look and feel they're going for/with. BFD FU***NG RULES THE MARKET!!! IT LEADS!!! IT DOES NOT FOLLOW!!

Alesis's STRATA, although a STEP forward?? Was NOT a LEAP. I KNOW AN EASY WAY TO LEAP!!! Strata can be BFD 3's controller. WHAT I HAVE IN MIND WILL REPLACE ACOUSTIC DRUMS THE WAY THE ELECTRIC GUITAR NOW REPLACES THE ACOUSTIC GUITAR ON STAGE AND FOR TRAVEL!!!!

All I do is play my drums, guitar, and other instruments and think of ways to improve them to make them BRIDGES and CONTROLLERS for the VIRTUAL INSTRUMENTS...a perfect HYBRID...and YES...my designs?? The PRO version can switch between acoustic and electric in under 10 minutes.

SO...AGAIN...if this continues to work as well as it's going?? I will NO LONGER bad mouth BFD...I will no longer accuse inMusic of "destroying my FAVORITE part of recording" (it REALLY was until all the problems). I do NOT apologize for ANYTHING I've said, because I was just LEFT IN THE DUST as inMusic changed EVERYTHING and didn't grandfather me in?? Even with the fact that I offered to SEND THEM the LAST WORKING VERSION before they took over?? So they could make it just licensed to me and GIVE ME BACK MY HUGE INVESTMENT...working PROPERLY...
I also don't apologize because I AM THE ONE WHO HAD TO FIX IT. It wasn't TOLD TO ME...or even SUGGESTED (I would have laughed it off....1.27 TERABYTES?? TERRABYTES...to REINSTALL...when it WAS working JUST FINE until YOUR UPDATES??
So...I lucked out. Installing that living room studio to mix in required something I said I wouldn't do...and while at it, "WHY NOT?? DON'T be a STUBBORN JERK...at least TRY...might get your program back!!"

Well, I think I might have!! And to say I'm (currently) happy? Is an UNDERSTATEMENT!!! Reinstalling will have been worth it (I'm currently not recording anything or really even feeling like doing anything besides practicing, getting better, and making EVERYTHING in my life more EFFICIENT and EFFECTIVE).
Might have gotten my old drumming buddy back...improved, running smoother, which means I can use the NEWER packs with GREAT EASE and NO GLITCHES, POPS, OR CRASHES...so far....which means, MORE DRUMS.

Alesis Strata had me excited for a few seconds...they talked about a "leap forward" and "powered by BFD" and I was like "OH YES!!! THEY'RE ARE FINALLY TAKING MY SUGGESTIONS!!!"

"NOPE!!! NOT EVEN CLOSE....I can get 15 per pad without breaking a sweat...and since the sounds all load in BFD whether you use them or not (something to look at to "offload" any sounds?? Like gaming offloads things you're not looking at?), just need enough TRIGGERS...the snare has PLENTY...you just can TRIGGER THEM ALL....and THIS Strata' STILL can't do it..."

SERIOUSLY...CONTACT ME. PEOPLE WILL ABANDON ACOUSTIC DRUMS because this will be able to do EVERYTHING acoustic and MORE...and with BFD, will sound COMPLETELY REAL.
A new sales format...you get (from Alesis) the "Stock sounds" free...or you can pick "one expansion" from BFD (a REAL kit comes with ONE SOUND). the FREE kit may have extra snares?? extra kicks?? WHATEVER...and NO MORE multi packs?? Unless it's a SALE. ("buy 5 for 3!!"..."build a bundle...only $XYZ, TIHS MONTH ONLY")
One kit...each kit going for about $40, so when you buy 5?? For $120?? YOU ARE SAVING.
Each sampled kit made to handle...THE NEW ERA OF VIRTUAL DRUM CONTROLLERS. Price points from BEGINNER (3 zones per pad...including the chokeable cymbals), Intermediate (5 zones per pad, 3 zone/choke cymbals), and PRO (up to 15 zones per pad, can become an ACOUSTIC KIT, 3 zone/choke cymbals). BEST YET??? THE PLAYER can decide WHAT THEY WANT. BUILD THEIR KIT from the ground up...MULTIPLE SKINS available (you get ONE with the kit...and can buy wraps...cheap enough to ENCOURAGE IT...including CSTOMIZEABLE PRINTS)....you pick the number of pieces and where. THE BRAINS are all different so that "home engineers" can't make the cheap one accept PRO pads...HOWEVER...EVERY model can upgrade to "PRO or INTERMEDIATE SNARE"....EVERY model can be expanded to accept ANOTHER brain of this SAME LINE. Say you have a Intermediate kit?? And you want to add some percussions?? You don't NEED the intermediate brain...or all those pieces...go for BEGINNER...

SO MANY MORE IDEAS that I don't mind clueing you in to THOSE SMALL details because they are NOTHING compared to what else i have in store...and if I can't get someone to help?? I'll do like I did with my guitar company....GO TO CHINA AND GET CUSTOM WORK DONE...talk with MEDELI and see if the want to be GLOBAL LEADERS. Tal to Chocolate Audio about making at least the first several PRO KITS (allow home studios to make and sell packs...if they are UP TO S***F? Make them "OFFICIALY RECOGNIZED", and take a small cut? MORE PACKS...NO WORK...you can also make "OFFICIALLY REJECTED" if a pack comes in that's GARBAGE, and not in the "lo-fi goodness way.

I'm REALLY hoping I have BFD back. I miss the old ways SO MUCH!! NO CRASHES...FAST LOADS...NO ERRORS...can change pieces MULTIPLE times or even AUDITION THEM without losing "ALL WORK SO FAR"?
I WANT IT BACK!!!

Otis Paul Clark was the brother I always wanted. Mischieveious...push me further than I wanted but never farther than I wanted to go. Once we met, we were practically inseparable...if OP couldn't go? I rather stay home and play music with him (he was a drummer...I was a singer/guitarist)...and vice-versa. ..the band room was at my place.
First dude I had no problem saying "I love you" too with ZERO fear of either of us thinking it was "homosexual"...he said it right back.
We understood each other in ways that bordered on telepathy.
We met in...'90? I was 14? Maybe 15?
He played drums in our first band with Brother Matt Hopper, who had found me first.
We played in a band we called "6 Feet Under" with our fellow Brother Scott McElwee.

Otis Paul (OP) was fu***ng funny...fu***ng had me in tears ALL THE TIME. We both had that effect on each other. Probably why we preferred philosophy stoned to big parties where the other wouldn't be.

We'd go to Huddy Ledbetter's grave (they had JUST found it) and smoke pot out of "fancy" Sherlock Holmes pipes (he found a set in his attic and restored 'em). We always made sure when we'd split off that the other had pot and ci******es...
OP was a MASTER of making inventions...that ONLY worked for HIM. He made his own double bass pedal...it CONSTANTLY BROKE if any one else used it. Once it BROKE during a gig...HR FINISHED 2 MORE SONGS JUST KICKING THE FU***NG BASS DRUM! He was insane.
We were at a coffee shop...he just stands up and starts frantically patting his pockets, crazy-eyed...looking everywhere.
"What's wrong, dude?"
"I THINK I LOST MY VIRGINITY!" he just SCREAMS OUT.
S**t like that...

And then he died...

And an imposter wearing his skin took his body and used drugs until his body died, too...

My first full novel.

I have 3 more stories that make up the core of "The Unea Tales". I hope to have all 3 written by year's end! Plus I have a new album music coming! I think that since I just finished The Robber and the Thief, I should work on this new album...I already have most of the stories written 80% in my head and all 3 books have been started, one is just starting and sitting at 13,000 words...the other way have 4000 and 5000 words committed already! Getting working on music (drain my mind from this novel...start fresh on these other 3)...come back to the stories when my brain has been fully scrambled and a totally separate artistic vice gets beaten up! :)

Still a million thanks go out to Michelle Battle (my wife) who helped translate the insanity my brain spews into familiarly formatted and an understandable story.
Then, I must thank Erin "the Professor" for giving the novel a reading and showing me SEVERAL mistakes I had made! I think this version has caught most if not all grammatical errors and the like!

Thank all of you for the amazing support! As always, ANY and ALL feedback is welcome! As long as it's honest and preferably "constructive".

I still might make this story into an audio book. Really nothing but "the effort" stopping me
