Flower Name: Baby’s Breath
Botanical Name: Gypsophila

🌿 A Little History

Baby’s breath has been used in floral design since the late 1800s. Its airy, cloud-like blooms symbolized innocence, purity, and everlasting love, which is exactly how it earned a permanent spot in weddings—especially as a supporting flower for roses.

🎨 Natural Colors

In nature, baby’s breath blooms mainly in:
• White (most common)
• Soft blush / pale pink

💡 Fun fact: all those bright blues, purples, and rainbows you see?
Those are dyed, not natural.

💍 Why We Love It in Weddings

✔ Soft, romantic, and timeless
✔ Makes bouquets feel full and fluffy
✔ Perfect for rustic, garden, and classic styles
✔ Budget-friendly filler that stretches floral designs
✔ Photographs beautifully (hello, dreamy clouds!)

😬 Why We Don’t Love It in Weddings

✖ Overused when relied on too heavily
✖ Can feel dated if not designed thoughtfully
✖ Messy—those tiny blooms shed everywhere
✖ Can look “filler-heavy” instead of intentional
✖ Strong scent for some people (surprise!)

🌼 Designer Tip

Baby’s breath shines best when used intentionally, not as a crutch. A little goes a long way—and when paired with premium blooms, it feels elevated instead of expected.

Monday Fun Flower Fact: Poinsettias!

Bright, bold, and the ultimate symbol of the holiday season.

🌿 A Little History
• Native to Southern Mexico, poinsettias were cherished by the Aztecs, who used the vibrant red bracts for dye and the sap for medicinal purposes.
• They became connected with Christmas through a Mexican legend about a girl whose humble gift of weeds miraculously blossomed into brilliant red poinsettias.
• The plant was introduced to the United States by Dr. Joel Poinsett, the first U.S. ambassador to Mexico — and yes, the flower is named after him!

🌸 Colors They Come In

Poinsettias are not just red! They bloom in a gorgeous range:
• Red (classic)
• White / Cream
• Pink
• Marbled / Variegated
• Salmon / Peach
• Burgundy
• Speckled / “Jingle Bells” patterns

🌱 Species
• There are over 100 cultivated varieties of poinsettias today.
• The species used for almost all decorative plants is Euphorbia pulcherrima.

🎄 Fun Extras
• December 12 is “National Poinsettia Day” in the U.S. — honoring both the plant and Dr. Poinsett.
• Poinsettias are not poisonous — a common myth — though they can cause mild irritation if ingested.
• While not a state flower, they’re strongly tied to December and the holiday season worldwide. #
