3 brain states from the Center for Emotional Education Only one brain can drive your body-car at a time.
Survival is reaction. Reaction doesn't speak. Survival doesn't speak, it only survives, it's like a feral cat... fight, flight, freeze, appease... all reactions. If you trt to talkvto it... well it reacts, yelling, leaving, disassociating, over-yesing, and requires gentle touch to the upper body, slow breaths, bringing body awareness, asking yourself Do I have feet, what do my ears feel like, do I have a body... to exit and enter the second brain state.
Second brain state. Emotional brain only use words like What, When, Why, How, and requires you to acknowledge their presence. Name the emotion, not the reaction. Anger is reaction and a blanket over emotion. What is the emotion? Sadness, confusion, resentment, sorrow, loneliness, etc... Emotion is a lost puppy. It's crying and confused. Treat it the same way you would the lost puppy 🫂 To get to the third brain state you Notice the emotion, Name it, and give yourself sympathetic light touch.
Suddenly, like magic, you activate the third brain state, Executive brain. It's like a soaring eagle. It solves problems, can see the big picture, notices everything, has BRILLIANT friggin ideas, and insights come from here.
I hope this helps. I hope it leads you to check if you have a body, Do I have knees? Notice and Name your feelings, lightly rubbing your ears as you do so, and laugh when you arrive at Executive, giving yourself a friggin High-Five for making it there.
