Two years ago, we walked into Desert Wind Winery with a simple idea: candle making classes and wine, a natural pairing. What started as a single class grew into a near-monthly tradition. We showed up. We promoted your events. We brought our community through your doors, class after class, season after season. We believed in that partnership, and we put real work into building something that worked for both of us.
So imagine our disappointment when we learned- not from a conversation, not from a heads up, but from a voicemail and a Facebook notification- that Gard Cellars had canceled our June 18 candle class. In their first week of new management, without warning, without discussion, without any regard for the more than 20 people who had already purchased tickets and made plans to be there.
That is not how you treat a long-standing partner. And it is certainly not how you treat a community.
To our attendees: we are genuinely sorry for the confusion this has caused. You deserved better from them. But more importantly- we are not letting this go. We are actively working on securing a new venue that shares our values and will honor the commitments that were made. This class will happen. Your ticket is not lost. We have over 20 people who trusted us with their plans, and we are not going to let them down. Stay tuned: We will have details shortly, and we promise it will be worth the wait.
Shame on you, Gard Cellars.
We showed up for two years. You couldn't show up for one conversation.
And to the Prosser community: If this is how Gard treats a two-year partner in their first week, it is worth paying attention to. This is not the kind of energy you want guiding one of your community's landmarks.
