Girlfriends Market

Girlfriends Market In spring 2016 five Acworth girlfriends founded The Girlfriend’s Market as a way to sell their “handmade cool stuff” to friends and family.

Since then the market has grown to include 23 vendors at Spring and Fall shopping events held in the area. The original girlfriends were LeeAnn Reid who has a “pottery passion;” Suzy Hogle, candlemaker; Deborah Hatcher, “Jarvelous – A jar full of marvelous” organic body scrubs and body whips; Johnette Adams, “Hensley Grace Designs” – one of a kind beaded jewelry; and Katherine Maynard, “Wooden Sug

ar” - custom signs and wooden items for the home. The first market was held in a private home in April, 2017. Everyone was very pleased with the turn out, especially LeeAnn Reid who sold over 200 pieces of pottery! The next two events were held at the Seven Hills Clubhouse, and the talented girlfriends grew from five to ten vendors. As word got out, more and more customers came to shop and subsequent spring and fall markets were hosted at Brookstone Country Club and Pinetree Country Club. The number of vendors grew as well, from ten to eighteen. In 2020 only a fall market was held, and we just completed our 2021 spring market. Follow us on social media to be the first to find out the details about our fall 2021 market, to be held at Marietta Country Club. The girlfriends are serious about giving back to the community. At the first market, they all pitched in and gave to two local charities. Since then, each girlfriend chooses their own charity to support and displays a sign stating where a portion of their profits will be donated.

Our newest vendor, Michelle Crist with The Peach Mitten tells us why she supports American Lung Association:

"I lost both of my parents to lung cancer. An awful disease. My goal is for there to be a cure, or at least a fighting chance for those with lung cancer, in my lifetime."

Help us save lives by improving lung health, preventing lung disease, and creating a healthy world for all.

Here's a giving message from Lee Ann Reid with Pottery Putz'n:

"I donate to Rescuing Hope because I have two daughters and the purpose of this charity hits home with me. The organization educates and makes young girls and others aware of the dangers of s*x trafficking. It can happen anywhere and to any innocent victim. A parents’ worst nightmare is for their child to disappear and the unknown of their whereabouts and dangers they may be in. Hopefully over time these criminal acts will no longer be a threat to our young children and young adults.“

Tomorrow is "Giving Tuesday" when many charities hope for generous donations. Deborah Hatcher with Jarvelous is donating to Mostly Mutts Animal Rescue. Deborah says "I am an avid animal lover and passionate about helping pets in need. I give to Mostly Mutts because they rescue many homeless pets that are special needs, and that require expensive medical care and procedures. They don't leave those behind because they are not "perfect" and likely to get adopted quickly."

Let Us Introduce Ourselves. For the past 15 years, Mostly Mutts has rescued and found homes for thousands of homeless dogs and cats. We have experienced tremendous growth since we moved into our current facility, 4 years ago, and our goal is to continue to grow through...

“My charity is the Lost Pet Recovery Team that was founded last year by my friends and neighbors, Chris and Joanne Benson. I have included some information about their charity, and encourage people to follow them and support their all volunteer mission to reunite lost pets with their families.
They have already reunited dozens of pets throughout the Atlanta area with their owners, and their amazing team is in need of crates, trail cameras, along with a myriad of search and rescue supplies.”

The all-volunteer expert Lost Pet Recovery Team provides this free public service, which is a program of the Animal Institute, a 100% volunteer charitable nonprofit animal protection organization. Johnette Adams with Hensley Grace Designs (https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100054276950514)
would like to highlight the charity she supports - Bartow Family Resources:

"They share the gospel of Jesus Christ with women and men who are experiencing an unplanned pregnancy and are abortion minded. The amazing group of women at this facility have one goal in mind; to bring the baby into the world that God has created in the woman’s womb. Cindy Hartzog, a close friend of mine, is very involved with this charity. She believes in it and I want to support her and the women she helps."

Tis' the season.... and our Girlfriends keep on giving!
Katherine Maynard with Wooden Sugar https://www.facebook.com/Wooden-Sugar-960594653998547 says "We have fostered one English Bulldog and a Frenchie and both have been foster fails. You fall in love with them and never want to give them up!" She donates to Georgia English Bulldog Rescue and wants you to know more about the organization.

Georgia’s very own English Bulldog Rescue is a 501(c)(3) corporation and are always in need of volunteers, donations, supplies and support. We rely solely on donations for the care and treatment of the rescued Bulldogs that are admitted to our organization.

Our mission is to first ensure the safety and well-being of all English and French Bulldogs that we take in and second to educate the public in the care of English and French Bulldogs. We rehabilitate and re-home English and French Bulldogs that are sick, neglected, abused, or injured. Moreover, we provide a safe alternative to shelters for owners that are faced with the already difficult decision of finding a new home for their English or French Bulldog.

We have rescued over 809 bulldogs since forming in 2009. We have approximately 30-40 English or French Bulldogs in foster care at any given time. At this time, we are unable to offer owners financial help when faced with a medical or surgical emergency. We hope to be able to offer some assistance in the future.

Continuing our tradition of "Live - Love - Give" Brenda Hill (The Passionate Preserver) wants to highlight her chosen charity - Atlanta Community Food Bank:

One in seven children in our service area will go to bed hungry tonight. In our service area, more than 715,000 people are projected to be food insecure. One in eight people in our service area is food insecure.

Three major reasons why 20% of my proceeds will go to support the Atlanta Community Food Bank, and the company I work for has a company match program, dollar for dollar.

When the Girlfriends Market first began, the girlfriends all had a chosen charity to which they donated part of their sales. The logo on the t-shirts says "Live - Love - Give" and this tradition continues.

We will highlight some of the charities that our girlfriends have chosen to support - beginning with Judith Frasure from Artworks and Greetings (https://www.facebook.com/Artworks-Greetings-Judith-J-Inc-1426627644310853):

For generations, members of our family have experienced cancer. My father, along with a group of fellow volunteers and professionals, created Cancer Navigators to fill a need of guidance for the patient and the family. Unfortunately, my father died of pancreatic cancer 9 years ago and Cancer Navigators were there with us.

Cancer Navigators is a community-based non-profit organization funded by citizens and businesses and public and private grants of Northwest Georgia. Volunteers and professionals provide educational counseling and access to valuable resources to ease some of the difficult emotions that challenge the process of information about one's health."
