Steven & Tracy Bryson bought some cattle at DCC and I noticed this PVC elbow on the air gaps. They come from some pretty serious summer heat. Steven says a PVC elbow and a heavy duty ziptie will scoop in lots of air directed right on the cattle. They can be turned to send fast air all over the trailer and help cool the cattle along the way. Pretty sharp Steven -- good school teacher thinking.

Versatile = Loomis Shank with Snaffle Mouthpiece

This bit can be used in many different ways. Its a great transition bit from the snaffle to a shank. It can also be a great tool to see where you are in your training program.

When transitioning your horse from the snaffle bit O or D ring, this bit sets you up for success, by creating a stepping block scenario.

First step is by exchanging the ring for a shank, you have added the element of leverage, while maintaining the familiarity of the mouthpiece.

Secondly, the curb strap can be adjusted to control the amount of leverage applied. A word of caution here, when using an articulating mouthpiece, be careful not to adjust to tightly and creating a vise like grip on the lower jaw.

Finally, by adding a shank hobble to the rein rings, you create a stiffer feel and the last building block.

Its also a great tool to go back to with your more advanced horses. It can assist you in discovering any basics you need to go back and work on.

The mouthpiece comes in 2 diameters, 3/8’ and 1/2”. Remember the 1/2” or larger diameter mouthpiece is the least severe. The 1/2” has more surface space to spread the pressure and the 3/8” smaller diameter creates a more specific pressure.

Loomis shank at approx 8 inches in length allows for a greater range of leverage than a shorter shank depending on curb strap adjustment.
