Good morning!

The sun is finally making an appearance, and many gardeners are eager to move plants outdoors.

Before you do, remember that Alaska's midnight sun is far more intense than most people realize.

Plants grown indoors under grow lights or inside a greenhouse have been protected from the full strength of direct sunlight.

Even bright grow lights provide only a fraction of the light intensity of the sun, and greenhouse glazing filters and diffuses some of that energy.

A transplant that looks healthy indoors can suffer sunscald in just a few hours when suddenly exposed to full sun and long daylight hours.

Hardening off allows plants to gradually adjust to brighter light, wind, temperature swings, and lower humidity.

A few warm, sunny days can do wonders for our gardens, but they can also quickly damage tender transplants. Take the time to harden off your plants now, and they'll reward you with stronger growth all season long.
