I am sure many of you have experienced the phenomenon where you were just minding your own business and suddenly its 50 years later!

Fifty years ago, this week, Greg skipped the last day of his Senior year of High School and his graduation ceremony so he could participate in the NMLRA Bicentennial Matches in Friendship, IN. He took 3rd place out of 107 participants in the Bicentennial All American Aggregate. The top 5 received Charleville Muskets from Val Forgett, Jr. of Navy Arms Company.

Greg was enrolled at the Bowman Technical School for engraving, beginning the fall of '76. He didn't know then, that his future would be custom engraving Uberti Henry's for Mr. Forgett a few short years later.

Update to our last post:
Matthew J Lyons was correct with straight rifling in all 5 rifles, others were close

We acquired the Moll rifle last week. In the process of studying it, we discovered it has straight rifling. So we began wondering how many other guns did we own with straight rifling? We found these 5 plus an Allentown, probably Moll barrel. All had been flints except the Maryland, which was built as a percussion. We did not find any halfstock percussion, but we're sure they exist. How many guns that are smoothbore today started as rifled and how many were straight rifling?
I believe straight rifling was used more than we thought. I ask myself why?

These 5 longrifles are all different, but share 1 surprising characteristic. Hint: not visible in these photos. Do you know? All will be answered next week.

For Flintlock Friday, I thought I would show off my pistol again, but add a story about the horn. Herman Hendricks built the pistol, Greg engraved it and I bought it back from the Gentleman who owned it. Now onto the horn. This horn was also crafted by Herman and hung with one of our shooting bags for years. Greg was moving things around and decides we should sell a few items. He takes the horn to the Artisan Show, but it didn't sell. That was fine by me, because when I realized Herman was the maker, I wanted it for my pistol 🥰 So , it is now in its new, old home! Happy Flintlock Friday!
