More often than you’d think, someone will say to me “no one reads books anymore”. Sometimes it’s when they learn I own a bookstore and sometimes they actually come in the store and say this, which seems like a bizarre choice to me, but you do you. I wish those people would have been in the store today. A steady stream of book readers were exploring all the nooks and crannies of my quirky little book shop. Some were looking for old favorites like they were tracking down long lost friends and others were looking for their next great read. They were recommending books to each other and petting Oly, the bookstore dog, who actually has terrible taste in books, so best to steer clear of his reading advice. He is adorable though. They came because they were completing the MI Book Hop, or they heard about a book on booktok, or they saw us tagged on bookstagram, or they finally had the chance to stop on their way “up north”. And I’m telling you it was such a wonderful place to be on this rainy memorial weekend. Buy the Book is approaching it’s 20th anniversary this year and IMHO more people than ever are enjoying the knowledge, adventure, insight, entertainment, and comfort that can be found in books.
