Hello My Pretties! I have been busy lately! I have been adding to my Etsy items in my shop at: carlysmithfolkart.etsy.com
Just added two new fellows, Sam and Bill. They are two of my Stump Dolls. Their necks are jointed so you can turn them to give them a different look...like they are actually looking at something! The word. "Fall" is stitched on their warm woolen scarf. They make great shelf sitters!!! Sam is the brown stripe and Bill is the dark green stripe.

What is up, my Pretties? Today I have some grungy and colored cheese cloth. It is perfect tied onto a witch for a cape, or some other finishing touch to the dolly you are making.

I hand dye all the cheesecloth by hand in wonderful Halloween colors! Just take a look and then please visit my Etsy shop at:

Hello again, my Pretties, today I am posting one of my Pumpkin Head Dolls. Her name is Annabelle She is not as primitive as the Witch in my last post. I still consider her a Primitive in a lot of ways…Using a real pumpkin stem is a definate* shift to the primitive side of her. Her head is made using the same technique most all my pumpkins are made. I stuff the head and then divide it into sections with a very (and I do mean “very”) strong type of thread. I leave out a couple of slices with these dolls to make room for the face. Another Prim touch is the fact that she has no real fingers. Her collar is primitive too! It is made from torn scraps of printed cotton. Perhaps you want to see others. Just refer to my last article in the 2018 Art Doll Quarterly or go to my Pinterest page: https://www.pinterest.com/bbbayou/ and you will see a lot of them!
Annabelle is made from tea stained muslin and is one of my “dressed up” dollies. Her face is applied using several techniaues. She has no hair (a prim touch). She just has some leaves coming out from her stem. You’ll notice her eyes are over large. I love this part! It is where her character comes alive!

What else is special about Annabelle? She is a jointed doll! She has 5 joints: her head, two arms and both legs have strong screwed together joints with real hardware similar to a teddy bear. But, she is even more special…her knees and elbows bend as her extremities are also wired! This is all so you can her in realistic positions, however you would like. The jointing and wiring process is very time consuming but really adds motion to the equation.
Annabelle wears a Celery green dress with beautiful 3D velvet flowers. Several trims are applied and color coordinated. She carries her pumpkin with her always! Annabelle may be the only pumpkin head this season as I got a late start and already have other fish frying!
Thank you for visiting and if you are interested in adding her to your collection, please message me for a price.

Well, my Pretties, it has been a long time since I have posted! I’m really rusty, so please be patient, I feel new at this, even though I used to post almost every day.
What in the world have I been doing all this time? Hmmm… After the divorce, I threw myself into organizing and decorating my home. I am still in the middle of a few home projects, but everything has worked out well. My Ex and I are very good friends. We still get together with our grown children and they don’t have to choose which parent they want to see because they can see us at the same time! And, blessings have come my way. I have horses again for this first time in many years. Yes, I still have no left hip (no more surgery there, just a lot of physical therapy) and only part of my femur….but I can still ride…and OMG! My stirrups are still even on both sides as my lower leg is still the same length!!! My Ex is building me a barn on his property!
So that’s it in a nutshell…On to dolling! Today I’m going to show you my first doll in almost four years! She is a Primitive Witch doll and quite large at 16 inches tall, not counting her hat! Francis Toadbottom is her name. Francis is made from tea stained muslin and is one of my “more prim than thin” dollies.
Her hair is a nice dark brown and is felted to her head, not glued. Eyes and nose are hand painted and her mouth is made of wire and sewn onto her face. Eye lids are stitched and pupils are high Quality German glass!
What is so special about Francis? She is a jointed doll! She has 5 joints: her head, two arms and both legs have strong screwed together joints similar to a teddy bear. But, she is even more special…her knees and elbows bend as her extremities are also wired! This is all so you can pose her in realistic positions, however you would like. The jointing and wiring process is very time consuming.
Francis wears a black polka dot dress with a crow themed apron. Her panty-loons are sewn in a black striped cotton prim fabric. Boots are painted. Francis wears a 6 inch witch hat but you can’t really see it with the black background.
Miss Toadbottom is on her way to the first Halloween party of the season. She carries her pet mummy with her always!
Thank you for visiting and if you are interested in adding her to your collection, please message me for a price.

I have been making pumpkins out of some unusual cloth. OK, just tell me you are holding your breath...LOL and I'll tell you! They are out of old feedsacks and I have actually made a set (patch) for me , so I call more than one a "pumpkin patch". Their stems are real pumpkin stems. These are the three sets I have, but before I offer them anywhere else, I want my FB friends to have 1st shot! Here is the first set. It is two medium pumpkins about 7-8" across, and one small one and It is 39.99. Please PM me if you are interested!Hello my Pretties!
