Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa James is a retired Journeyman Carpenter currently living in Kapolei, Hawaii.

He initially started making tack belts for his family and friends during the downtime of the COVID pandemic. He began selling them as a fundraiser for the O’ahu Native Nations Organization (ONNO) to help cover expenses for the inaugural “Round Dance in Paradise” held on the island of O’ahu in March 2022. Since then, his belts have become very popular as they showcase a variety of designs depicting

geometrical, floral, wildlife and traditional motifs. He now travels the pow wow circuit with his wife Lynnae, selling his belts, advertising and fundraising for the ONNO Pow Wow in Paradise held in April annually on the island of O’ahu.
