News item:

Republican Kansas Congressman Jake LaTurner announced Thursday that he will not run for another term after seeing a rapid political rise in recent years.

LaTurner, who is 36, cited the four young children in his family when he announced he would not seek another term in the 2nd Congressional District that covers parts of the eastern quarter of the state, including most of Douglas County outside of Lawrence.

My take is always: What, he didn't want to spend more time with them two years ago?

All the latest book banning going on reminds me of a favorite part from SPILL when atheist Fred Underwood takes a job teaching in a Christian school. Too long to publish here. I've put it on my blog

A blog about this writing life, epublishing, and the art of fiction.

Well, this was kinda neat. I'm one of five authors worldwide to have a part of his/her work accepted for publication in an interesting literary magazine published in Berlin called "First Page." The premise is that the beginning of a story is critical for a reader to determine if he/she will continuing reading so the author puts a lot of effort into that first page. I entered something and didn't keep a record of what I entered; so I, too, will have to wait until November to find out what it was. But here I am and the company in which I find myself: https://www.firstpageliterature.com/index.php/issues/6/

A Lovecraftian style tale of the horrors that surround the simple draining of a park pond and the modern day research that leads back to the Civil War and the discovery of an undead zone.

I had a short story of mine chosen for the pick of the month on a UK fiction website that was posted today. It's gained one nice comment: "Well crafted with subtle reveals throughout to slowly peel through the layers and arrive at the underlying truth. I enjoyed going back and re-reading the opening section after understanding more about Jeremy and Don's relationship."

You rattle along as an Indie published writer and not much happens for a long time. And then a nice comment happens. Thank you, Stan Finger, whoever you are.

Attwood sets the scene well and crafts a short story loaded with punch and surprise. I wanted the story to continue.

(And as the writer I'll add when a reader says he/she wants the story to continue, you know you ended it at the right time.)

It's a 99 cent buy:

A tale of innocence lost, as two adventurous boys discover tragic hidden secrets and their own true nature.
