I found this book while spending WAY too much time on that clock app. I happen to run across the author on my FYP. It was one of those where they act like they are the main character of their book while giving a summary of the story and I fell for it hook, line, and sinker!

This is about a woman that is dealing with the sudden loss of her husband due to a diagnosis of aggressive cancer. Immediately prior to this happening Gemma found out that her husband had been cheating on her. Because she knew that her husband didn’t have much longer to live, and not wanting to throw her life into more chaos than it already was, she chose to not tell anyone about the indiscretion.

Months after his death she decides that she doesn’t want commitment but does want companionship. Enter the hot, sexy bartender, Zach.

Shenanigans ensue and seggy times are had. This was a good read, definitely entertaining. Is it bad that I wish Mariana Zapata would take this plot like and insert all the emotional growth and angst that I want, and felt was lacking? I feel like for all of the traumatic, emotional things that happened to both of these characters, the book wasn’t long enough to give them the character building that they both deserved. This book was good, but could of been so much better given some more pages.
Overall, I still recommend this especially if you are a fan of sports romances like The Deal, and the Wall of Winnipeg and Me, as well as adorable cinnamon roll male love interests!
I already have this second book about Gemma’s friend queued up and ready to go!

I read this baby as a palate cleanser, and boy, cleanse my palate it did!

The set up for this book is that a writer is suffering the loss of her writing partner, while also trying to write her first solo novel.
Her new writing agent sends the main character to “her” Italian summer home to help with her writers block. Turns out her 🥵HOT🥵 ex husband and baby daddy actually lives there and its HIS house.
Needless to say high jinx ensues and seggy time sneaking around happens and its great. Theres also the aspect of the hot guy taking care of a child that literally MELTS me every single time and let me tell you, this guy is a grade A dad.

It brought back all of the memories of the magical vacation me and my husband to Italy a couple of years ago.

I felt like the main conflict was addressed a little late in the game and not handled super well. But over all a good light s**tty romance, that will continue to please Karina Halle fans.

If you want a summer time version of the Holiday, with a delish Scotsman and a publisher, this will be your jam.

The main character doesn’t get a promotion that she has been in the works for for 7 years and it is instead given to a new MALE employee that is younger than her with less experience. She decides to give the patrichary a middle finger and go to Scotland for a couple of weeks to run a book store in return for using the apartment space above the shop. From there she promptly runs into a handsome cinnamon roll of a Scotsman and romance, sexy times, and angst ensues.

This was such a sweet, romance with threads of some deeper topics that had to be tackled by side characters. Theres definitely a found family aspect with the small town that she’s in that is kind of fun, but at the same time the main character had a tendency to stick her nose in peoples business, and it kind of rubbed me the wrong way. The entire time the the main character had good intentions, but it was like, GIRL can you just mind ya business.

I just want to take a quick moment to shout out the water pump scene- you the real MVP 🌶🥵🍆

Colleen Hoover definitely came for my jugular with this one!

This is such a lovely depiction of loss, love, and forgiving yourself for the mistakes you’ve made.

This is the heartbreaking story of a young woman that made a mistake that more than one of us had definitely made. However, for her it change to whole trajectory of her life. One of the things I love most about Colleen’s characters is that none of them are black and white, just like people IRL, her characters are millions of shades of grey. You see her characters for the worst and best they have to offer and you get a peak of little bits of yourself in them.
The love story is one of seeing each others flaws and loving each other for those flaws.

Once again, you killed it Colleen! Im already dying for your next release, whenever that maybe!

This is the sequel to The Wrong Game. It is a football romance with a dream marshmallow of a man 🫠 with the best friend of the main character of the first book.
Bella is a self proclaimed serial dater that has some emotional scars from previous relationships. Mean while the male lead, Makoa, is a burly marshmallow who just wants to find someone to love him for who he is, not the millions that he has the potential to earn in the NFL.
The two happen to meet after Makoa moves to Chicago and Bella is hired to decorate Mak’s apartment. From there a tension filled time until the dam finally breaks 😜
This book is full of so much s**t and dirty talk 🥵 it was great. There is a little bit of a lying by omission going on that I feel was taken a little too far and went on to long, that’s basically the only complaint that I have.

This was a “reread” for me (I listened to the audiobook)

If you’re a fan of and , you will gobble this s**t up. It starts out strong with our main character being put up for sale in black market after being abducted in the woods by Goblins. We find out she is a “Nightmare” which means that she by a mere touch she can tell what your deepest fear is and also make you experience that fear. She is then saved by a mysterious stranger, and the story goes on from there. We find out her brother has been missing for several years, and her parents are dead and she has a found family sort of dynamic with several humans in her town/work place. We are given multiple love interest, but also one is 🤔. Like “ok, K.J. Sutton, where are we going with this girlie pop?”. This particular book doesn’t give a lot of spice, but there’s some handsy things that happen, and a TON of angst.

The first time I listened to this book I literally binged all 3 books that were out in a matter of a week and Im so excited to re read the others. Libby (my library app) is really putting a damper on things, but I will gladly wait 4+ weeks for the next audiobooks 😢

One of my only complaints about this book is the continued hammering in of her loyalty to her brother and her absolute determination, regardless of his wants, to “save” him from his current situation. Maybe its the scorpio in me, but listen, Im not about to do all the work, you gotta save yourself too.

There are SEVERAL unique subplots going on, that I don’t want to ruin. But I remember vaguely how they progress though the series and Im super excited to continue listening to the audiobooks!

Yet another book that I just DO NOT understand the hype for. Me and a friend of mine read it for one of our “read a book in a day” hang days, and the scene was all set for success. But alas, success was not achieved. Believe me, I WANTED to like this book, I really really did. First of all the writing/writing style just seemed self indulgent to the detriment of the plot. I haven’t felt so stupid reading a book since I was in middle school. The amount of words that I had to look up was eye rolling and just added to the inaccessibility of the book. Secondly, I was promised dark academia, and what I got was 20 year olds fumbling around academically and sexually 😉. But not in a fun way, just in an aimless way. One could argue the fumbling was so random and came out of now where, it was like author just picked names out of a jar one day and was like “lets make them bang.. that’d be cool”. Don’t get me wrong, there were moments that were cool (specifically talking about the whole Callum/Parisa mental duel). There was a whole lot of blundering around without a real goal, then all of the sudden in the last 50 pages you get several big reveals, that if spaced out and given time to breath, I think would of helped with the lagging plot for the first 300 pages.

I’ve heard that since it got picked up by a publisher there were some edits that took place, so Im wondering if that helped much? But also not curious enough about it that I would read it again. HARD, HARD pass.

If you like the Magicians by Lev Grossman, you might like this? It gave me the same meandering pretentious plot line without a real direction that this did.

Sorry if you happen to love these books, but its a no for me dawg.

This book takes place in the same “universe”? as Nikki Sloane's other book The Doctor. This is an age gap romance, but instead of the male being the older one like you typically find, the woman is the older one and the younger one is her best friends son. Yup, you read that right, her best friends son. The main character finds her self unexpectedly divorced after finding her husband having and an affair with his boss. After a little nudy, poolside sun-bathing run in with Troy (the love interest), they find themselves on a slippery slope of lust.
The thing that I enjoyed about this is that even though it was steamy, there was the common interest of music that also tied them together. I could actually see these two making it because their relationship wasn’t just sexual. I loved how Troy treated the main character and showed her how much she meant to him. Her self esteem was really in the dumps after her husbands affair and what make a woman feel herself more than a hot younger man doing all the dirty things to her, but also backing them up with words and actions? Then there’s also the way that the main character (Erika) helps Troy realize his dream and support him. It like emotional p**n and I love it.

This book came to me as a recommendation from a friend who knew I was struggling hard with my full time job, part time (really full time) Etsy business, and making time to take care of myself. Im talking, your girl would go 9+ hours without eating because I was so busy spraying books, and would convince myself that I would “just finish this last set of books” then I would take a break and eat.
This book is just a small little nugget of a story that explores why we, as humans, overwork ourselves, and to what ends we go to satisfy others expectations of ourselves, to the detriment of our happiness.
There’s so many moments while reading this book that I just highlighted or tabbed a sentence that hit my in my heart a little. The writing is also just so beautiful. I just love the way the author chose to word her sentences so beautifully to make it that much more impactful.

One of my favorite quotes: “You keep asking why your work is not enough, and I don’t know how to answer that, because it is enough to exist in the world and marvel at it. You don’t need to justify that, or earn it. You are allowed to just live. That is all most animals do.”

👏🏻 you 👏🏻 are 👏🏻 allowed 👏🏻to 👏🏻 just 👏🏻 live 👏🏻

Ill say it louder for the people in the back.

👏🏻 YOU 👏🏻 ARE 👏🏻 ALLOWED 👏🏻 TO 👏🏻 JUST 👏🏻 LIVE 👏🏻

To me, this is such a powerful statement. During this time I was trying to recover from having to leave my career that I had been in for 12 years for my own mental and emotional well being. I was lost because I had defined my self entirely too much by that career. It was so important for me to see and hear that it was ok to just live, and that in and of its self is so hard for most of us.

If you’re struggling with your mental health, I definitely recommend this one, and the sequel. Keep your eye out for my review of that one too!

This one, like Graceling, I read as a young twenty and recently reread because the 4th book came out. This book is definitely darker than Graceling was, but equally as great. The thing that has always stood out to me, and still stands out to me is the normalization, and even the discussion of periods in this book. There are so many female lead fantasies out there that just ignore the fact that we all menstruate and its something that all female have to deal with as well as trying to save the world (in these books). Im looking at you Hunger games/ Divergent 👀

This book is the prequel that gives us the back story to the villain in all of the other books, and expand the world to other lands and people.

After this book comes Bitterblue, which I didn’t really enjoy the first, or second time I read it. Bitterblue suffers (in my opinion) from being entirely took long. I do appreciate the back story it goes into and the the discussion of nature vs nature when it comes to villains. I definitely dragged my feet while reading this the first time and reread it only in order to continue with the forth book, Winterkeep.

Ultimately I ended up DNFing Winterkeep, which hurts me more than it hurts any of you. I felt like the magic of the first and second book is gone and it.. just doesn’t hit the same. This book brought nearly all of the main and side characters from the Graveling and Bitterblue together and starts discussing all of their travels and antics with the resistance. In the end, I think the scope of the book with all the different characters was just too much and needed to be narrowed down, and edited down in length.

I will not be continuing with Seasparrow
