It’s 94 degrees by noon. Your forehead’s sweating before your tires leave the driveway. You told yourself this ride would be “relaxing.” Then mile six hits and suddenly your legs are filing HR complaints. This is where most weekend warriors hit the wall. But not you. Because you, genius that you are, went with the Magnum Wave or its big sibling, the Magnum Bliss, from our shop here in Kalona!

Both come loaded with a Samsung-powered 48-volt battery and torque-sensing pedal assist that kicks in when you start to suffer. The Wave throws down with 500 watts of hub-drive muscle and a color display that tells you everything but your horoscope. The Bliss ups the ante with 750 watts of smooth power, a top speed of 28 mph, and enough torque to make North Liberty hills and Coralville trails feel like poolside breezes.

Two weeks.

That's what's left between today and July 1; the day the Kalona shop closes for good unless a new owner steps forward to carry it on.

We keep thinking about the small moments this place was made of. The kid who couldn't stop grinning on the test ride down Sharon Center Road. The man who hadn't been on a bike since his knees gave out, rolling out the door on three wheels with his wife laughing behind him. The regulars who came in for a flat fix and stayed an hour just to talk.

That's the part that's hard to let go of. Not the inventory — the belonging. A little shop on a gravel road where Iowa came to get back on a bike.

We're still holding out hope someone steps up to keep it going. But if these are the last two weeks, we'd rather spend them the way we always have: with you, in the shop, sending good bikes home with good people.

Anybody can sell you a bike. We sold you the bike and fixed it when you rode it through the puddle you swore you saw coming.

For twelve years, "we service what we sell" wasn't a slogan on the wall — it was Eric in the back with a wrench, sorting out your flat on a Tuesday so your Saturday stayed yours.

We tell you this now because it's the part of Creekside we're proudest of, and because it changes how you should think about the sale going on right now: these are bikes that were chosen, assembled, and stood behind by people who ride. Not boxed-and-shipped from a warehouse that's never heard of Kalona.

Before we close, we'd rather these go to riders who'll get the dozen good years out of them that they're built for.

The clearance is on. The know-how is still behind the counter. Both have an expiration date.
