Here’s a chance to support Juneau makers this holiday season, from your couch!

Despite the challenges in the world right now, we've found a way to continue our Winter Maker's Market tradition. This is, without a doubt, our favorite event every year. And we will miss the crowds and lines and smiles and energy. But, there is something sweet about finding special gifts for loved ones (or yourself) from your favorite artists (or ones that you are about to discover) from the comfort of your home.

Here’s how it works. Our Virtual Makers Market website (www.madeinjuneau.com) will go live tonight at 5:00pm and will remain open for shopping through Sunday evening. Your order will be bundled together and available for pick up at Amalga Distillery on December 11, 12, and 13.

We miss you, and as always, thank you for supporting local artists and makers!

Hi! Long time, no post! I’ve had several holiday requests this week, so I thought I’d better update you all on the status of my business.

As you may remember, I took a full-time office position at the beginning of 2020(which was like 34 months ago, right?!). Then the pandemic happened, resulting in Zoom school supervision while teleworking and eventually LOTS of face-mask making.

The end result of all that 2020 had to offer means that I have put a pause on this chapter. Honestly, the masks completely burnt me out on sewing. I don’t have the time to dedicate to making (and making well) due to the shift in my responsibilities. And that’s okay! I am so thankful for my new position, and that, even though it’s at home on Zoom, my kids are still getting an education while staying healthy.

So, pretty much the only sewing I’m doing lately is making additions to co-workers’ uniforms and the odd finish or two of small hand-stitching projects.

Please continue to support your local makers!! Small business needs all the love this year. Happy Holidays and thank you for your support!

We snuck a new batch of Amalga Distillery Pup Bandanas out the door (literally, no-contact pickup by the whole cute distillery family from my front porch driftwood pickup zone) and now they are up for sale online. Look at the size options! Add one to your pickup order along with your to-go weekend cocktails😍

This is why I have so much mask material on hand—I only buy and use high-quality fabrics! Be sure to check guidelines before you make their own. And please try to make your own if possible! I’ll be working again this weekend on some requests from local small businesses and neighborhood friends. If everyone who can do this helps out those around them who can’t, it won’t take long to get masks to all who need them!

Some fabrics were found to work better at filtering small particles than medical grade masks.

From Dr. Zink on masks. I am currently producing masks at my maximum capacity and have gotten many, many requests for mask orders. I appreciate you thinking of me, but I am not selling masks. I am donating them where needed within my community and family. I encourage everyone to browse around at the many websites with mask-making patterns and directions. They are much simpler than you may think to make, and if you have access to a sewing machine it’s a project that you can work on while you are staying home with your family!

So much good being done in our community! 💙💙

So much good being done in our community! 💙💙

Juneau, as a result of the critical need for sanitizer in our community, we have refocused resources toward the production of hand sanitizer. While we recognize that there is a widespread need, we do not have the ability to manufacture enough hand sanitizer to make it widely available. Our focus has been on quiet distribution to high risk and vulnerable populations; specifically medical personnel, community non-profits that work with elders and homeless populations, government agencies, and those that keep our critical infrastructure and goods moving to Juneau. ⁣

For the safety of both the public and our staff we ask that you not visit the distillery for sanitizer. If you work with an organization that fits within the above parameters, please email [email protected]. ⁣

We will post updates and get the word out if we are able to expand production and distribution, but in the meantime, we thank you for your patience and hope you understand that we are doing what we can. Thank you for your support!

First round of face masks for our medical community is done with more to come. Most of these are going to our local hospital, with a few also being mailed by request to a respiratory therapist friend in PA and my mother-in-law in FL, who works in imaging at her local hospital.

Small things add up...do what you can to help!

Pattern I followed: https://buttoncounter.com/2018/01/14/facemask-a-picture-tutorial/

**Edit to add: I am NOT selling these. They will be donated to the local facilities that have expressed a need. If I happen to find enough elastic (my limiting factor right now, because let's face it, I have enough fabric in my house to outfit all of Juneau) I will offer masks to other communities. Either way, they will be a donation. I am happy to do one very small thing to support our medical community during this crazy time in history. I am keeping a list of requests, so if you have one, please just let me know and I'll add you to the list, Juneau priority first, followed by other communities in Southeast Alaska, where our number of ventilators available is horrifyingly low at 7-10 for our 30,000-person population.

Ok friends...our small town AK medical facilities need our assistance with prolonging the life of their PPE. Starting a trial run now. If it goes well I will post the directions I use and my own video tutorial if needed as well as offer up some fabric to Juneau locals who have time/means to assist. Stand by.

If I can’t have snow for the holidays in Alaska’s capital city, at least I still have a moose atop my tree. Wishing you a very merry (rainy) Christmas, from my family to yours.
