Guides, not your local tour or fly guides, but your fly rod guides. Single or Double? Depends, find a custom builder that will work with you, because that is part of the "Custom" you are paying for. Always be happy with what you have made.

Something different before I start a new build later this week. Building a brush table for my son to help with him making streamers, and really big Muskie and Pike streamers.

New week, new day, and a new rod build. The blank is ordered, so I am starting with building the reel seat. FYI, I thought I had the video going, sadly I did not. Just still photos taken.

Final thought on the rod, it out performed my expectations. It did everything I asked of it with ease. Over the weekend I threw Dry flies, Streamers, tight line nymphing and indicator nymphing on the one rod and it did it all flawlessly. If I could carry only 1 rod, this would be it, but we all know that is not going to happen. LOL.
Day two, a much slower start to the day. Everything they were hitting on yesterday, was not working today. Started from square one and tried to pull from my experience with this stretch of water, ( very limited ) and the weather, and being sunny and clear. Took me about an hour and a half, catching a few but nothing really consistent, but found a pattern that started working, an RS2 in a size 24. Sun went higher, it got warmer, and after catching 3 in 30 minutes, I changed up again to a size 22 black zebra midge with a green weighted Myers mini-leach, and then it was on. Finished out the day catching about 25 more fish before calling it a day. Somewhere between a few dirty looks from other anglers, and even a few trying to stand within arms length and cast where I have been for 30 minutes and cast over me, (please don't ever be one of those people) and it still didn't help them. In all honesty, if they wanted to know what I was doing or using to catch fish, all they needed to do was ask!
Anyway, although I have had days I have caught more, hard for me to ever think of a time I caught this many quality large fish. It was just crazy when I caught only 2 or 3 small fish, ( under 10") and everything else was 14" to 18”, and thick, here are a few from today.

Well, day one of the fishing weekend, the new rod is nice, light, and very responsive. 20+ fish caught, and this day is in the books. Really loving this new rod, so this is the beginning of many more days to come. Here are a few of the ones I caught today, keep in mind, it is about 12” from the end of the rod, to the top of the handle.

Been a bit, between work, activities, and a washing machine that decided it needed my attention, I was able to get the rod finished. Practice casting, and the response this North Fork composite gives me feels very precise, I think that this will give me years good use. I will give it a good workout this weekend at Roaring River Missouri. More to come.

Measuring the blank to verify the line weight. This blank was purchased as a 9' 6" 5 weight. I use a rough industry measurement guide, The Common Cents System. Basically, using pennies, you bend the tip with the weight of the pennies, until it hits a flex of 36". Then count out, ( I weigh them ) and you get a weight, this rod weighs in at 1523 grains. Using the weight I now compare to the basic standards, which puts this rod blank at a heavy 4 weight. Which is fine and often desirable. The softer rod paired up with a heavier line can increase casting distance and help in windy situations. I will need to re-test again once the line guides are installed, I have found that this can make slight changes in it's flex as well as if they are single foot/ wrapped guides or double wrapped snake guides.

Completed the final epoxy coat on the reel seat and end cap and making it more of a fighting butt. Ready for installation on the new build, more to come.

Starting this evening with the spine. This is the starting point of making an accurate and well casting rod. Ensuring the sections all flex and move the same way, and making sure you can't blame the rod maker for the accuracy or lack of accuracy in your cast.
