A great reminder!!
“Today, I painted a new resident’s nails at work. As we went over the colors, she quietly asked for clear polish. I blinked and thought to myself, ‘Clear? That’s no fun!’
So I gently asked, ‘Why clear?’
She looked down and said, ‘Because my hands are ugly. I don’t want to draw attention to them.’
I paused, then replied with a smile:
‘Your hands are beautiful. They tell your story — the story of love, care, strength, and resilience. These hands have held people, built memories, and touched moments most can only dream of.’
She looked at me, and slowly smiled.
Then she picked pink.
It’s funny how the things we feel most insecure about…
are often the things that hold the most beauty in the eyes of others.
Sometimes, all it takes is someone to remind us we’re worth the color. ”

In a quiet moment of vulnerability, we often choose to hide away the parts of ourselves we deem imperfect. We believe that our flaws—the wrinkles, the scars, the marks of our journey—are things to be concealed, not celebrated. Yet, these very imperfections are often what tell the most beautiful stories of a life lived. They are a testament to our strength, our resilience, and the battles we have fought and won. What we see as a sign of decline, others may see as a map of profound experiences.
Sometimes, all it takes is a single, compassionate voice to remind us that our story is worth being seen, and that we are worthy of embracing our own vibrancy.
