Crop tops are in the shop and ready to go on all your summer adventures!

I have been living in my new crop and I can confidently say, it’s perfect. I’ve layered mine with a denim jacket and leggings for soccer games, I’ve worn it with jeans and a backwards hat, with joggers- I really can’t find something these won’t pair with. They will be hitting the shop this weekend and I know you’ll want to come check them out and snag one for spring and summer 🤩

Hi, friends! šŸ‘‹šŸ¼
It has been a whole month since I have posted on this account. I know how small business works, and I know how important it is to have a social media presence, but I have just been feeling pulled in so many different directions. It has been at least a month since I have made anything with my hands to put in my shop. I have been coaching my sonā€˜s basketball team, learning how to do a myriad of different braids for my baby girl, working full-time in our family frame shop, and planning for the future with my husband both professionally and personally. The spring is when I usually go full force into my little business, but I just haven’t had the energy I normally do. And, if I’m being honest, I have been so ashamed of myself. Who am I if I don’t have the mental and physical fortitude to do everything I have set out to do?

I’m a human. I have a capacity of what I am able to take in and produce. Even if my mind is constantly buzzing with new ideas and plans and goals, there is only so much I can do well. And that really sucks. I don’t want to have limitations. And I definitely don’t want to have to say ā€œnoā€, to anyone or myself. But I’m learning to lean into the vulnerability of being a person. A whole person.

And you know what? So should you. Lean into the vulnerability of limitation. Because you have a threshold. You can’t do everything. And that’s ok because your value is so much more than your production. Let’s all be more patient, more gentle and more forgiving.

Take up space with your unique voice. Take up space with your silence. Take up space with your rest. Take up space with your expertise, no matter who questions it. Take up space with your concern and care for others. Take up space with your time invested in good things. Take up space with your ideas. Take up space with your needs and your need meeting. Certainly take up space when you see injustices. Take up space against racism and misogyny. Take up space as the capable, irreplaceable woman that you are. Never shrink, never become smaller. We need you to take up space.

I sat down last week at my computer and just stared at a blank, white screen for the better part of an hour. I had set aside one hour of quiet time- the kids were in school, I had the house to myself- to try to get in the right headspace to make plans and cast visions for the year. A big part of running successful businesses is chasing down passions and dreams and putting them to paper so they can happen. Manifesting is great and necessary, but so much of business is actual work.
And so, I sat down to figure out what I want out of this year.

I want so many things. To make something with my hands. To sketch. To write. To make dimensional art. To foster community. To build up the women around me. To shine light on what matters. I want to do something that matters. And I certainly don’t just want to create content to keep being relevant in the small business community. A lot of loose threads, I know, but I think I figured out how I want to tie them all up.

It’s words. Everything I’ve always loved to do has centered around words. Talk? Yep. Write? YES. Make art that says something? Definitely. I want my art to speak. To be a reflection of who I am and what I want to see. So, here’s to more words and weird little drawings and making things that matter.

You are worthy of love. Not because of what you can do or what you offer, but because of WHO you ARE. That’s just the truth. Take that truth and apply it all over and what a world this could be.

These little prints will be hitting the shop (along with a few others) just in time to gift to your best pal or your partner or your momma or yourself for Valentine’s Day ā¤ļø.

It’s almost February 14, and whether you’re all in on the Valentine’s Day vibes or you just consider it another Monday, it’s never a bad time to give a special gift to someone you love!

When I was thinking through what I wanted to offer for Valentine’s/Mother’s Day this year, I couldn’t stop thinking about these little portraits I mocked up for ornaments this year. I ended up sending a few of the sketches to my clients along with their ornaments and they LOVED them. So, now you can get your very own digital prints!

When you follow the link in my bio, it will take you to an Etsy order page. You can read all about the details there and order directly from that page. Turnaround time is roughly one week so get those orders in soon! I can sketch up to 6 people and I’ll size the print any size you’d like! Keep in mind, I will send you a high-quality digital file that you can send or share on social media or print as many times as you would like. It’s the gift that keeps on giving!

Hi friends! šŸ‘‹šŸ¼
So, I have really been taking some time away from this little account to be intentional about pouring into my family and our frame shop. I am coaching Cal’s basketball team (dream come true), and helping CG lean into whatever art she wants to do (and she wants to do EVERYTHING) and really stepping into a bigger role at the frame shop. And I’ve been spending a lot of time reflecting over what I actually WANT to create this year. I have spent hours researching new techniques to take my lettering to the next level and dyeing methods and new ways to incorporate dyed materials into my art. I also finally committed myself to some art methods that I invested in years ago and set aside. This is the year that, no matter what is going on around me, I’m going to let myself explore what makes me feel creatively alive. Even if I have to fail and try again. Even if I am creating just for me sometimes. But I really think you guys will like what I have to offer. At least I hope you do! 🄺

So, stay tuned to watch my incredibly jumbled brain set out on a few new creative paths! I’m really excited about trying and growing and hopefully building community along the way. After all, that’s what Hub City Love has always, and will always, be about. Community.

*Today’s view is brought to you via my cozy couch, working on designs and drinking 5 cups of coffee because I can*
