I spoke with the head of the North Maine Woods this morning. The Forester for Wagner took it upon himself to remove this culvert. He never communicated with other landowners or the North Maine Woods. We have workers in the Jackman area that work in the North Maine Woods that use this road on a regular basis. guides that have bear bait sites that rely on passage that have paid money that rely on the south branch access. Our businesses rely on this road as guests eat, sleep etc while entering/exiting this country. Moose River Lumber also benefits from wood being hauled to their mill from time to time.
He has spoken with Wagner and the culvert/bridge will be replaced. Sooner than later. This was an unacceptable move that the forester should never have made and hopefully Wagner will hold him accountable as this will cost them some money. Thank you to all landowners that allow us to access their property for recreational purposes. Please remember to respect their property and leave no trace. Thanks
August 15, 2017: The South Branch Access Road has been blocked by the landowner just before mile 17. You no longer can travel from Route 201 via the Kelly Dam Road and the South Branch Access Road to get to the Golden Road and the North Maine Woods.
There was a large diamater culvert at this location that was starting to come up out of the ground, so the company managing the land removed the culvert, shaped and stabilized the stream banks, and installed a very large berm (taller than a pickup) on either side of the stream crossing. No vehicles can get past the berms.
PLEASE NOTE: THE PROPERTY ON THE OTHER SIDE IS STILL ACCESSIBLE. YOU JUST HAVE TO TAKE ANOTHER ROUTE TO GET THERE.
