Islesford Pottery is a small studio and gallery of pottery on the Islesford Dock, on Little Cranberry Island, Maine, just off Mt Desert Island. (since 1989) We feature the work of owner and founder Marian Baker, co-potter Elizabeth Louden, (while Kaitlyn Duggan is taking "mom" time to be with baby Bode) as well as the work of about 7 or 8 other potters, along with guest artists such as Miklos Pog

any. Potters who are usually represented at Islesford Pottery: Marian Baker, Elizabeth Louden, Kaitlyn Duggan, Ruchika Madan, Chris Breedlove, Cathy Schroeder Hammond , Lauren Mundy, Joan Lord Johnston, Nancy Shaul, Kari Radasch, Lucy Breslin, Mark Johnson, Cindy Thomas. Marian and Elizabeth make and fire work right there in the shop, so new pots for the shop are always being unloaded. Little Cranberry Island (Islesford) is accessible by Beal and Bunker mailboat from Northeast Harbor or Cranberry Cove boat service from Southwest Harbor. (see Islesford.com for boat schedules) We are open summers only, usually early June through September.

I can't resist a few more photos of what's in the shop! Still a few more potters' work to come later this month (work of Albert L'Etoile, Piper Smith and Ruby Long) so I will update again when I have more.

June is coming! I've got lots of boxes packed up and ready to schlepp out there to the shop. Quite a few boxes are already there thanks to Chris bringing a lot up there in April. The plan is to be open on June 1st, 10 to 4 daily, and starting June 21st, 10 to 6 except Mondays 10 to 4. Looking forward to getting there and setting up! I'll have 2 new potters' work this summer for you to check out, and many others who have had work there past summers. Can't wait to get there! See you before too long!

I don't post much in the winter when the shop is closed, but work is certainly going on now to fill up the shop in June! Here is a video of opening a kiln recently and a view of some of the work after it was unloaded. Looking forward to getting to Islesford end of May and putting out lots of new work! My own, and many others! Happy Spring!

Just got in some work by Tim Christensen (Franklin ME) and Nate Willever (Philadelphia, PA). Tim's work uses a beautiful sgraffito technique on porcelain with imagery of sea animals, nature, fishermen, and fired in a wood kiln with salt added for a soft sheeny effect. Nate's traditionally rooted forms of cups, vases, bowls, and other work involves using native dug clay mixed with other clays, and use of his own dug and ball-milled feldspar for glazes. Come on in and check them out when you can!

Islesford Pottery is now OPEN for the season. Hours are 10-4 daily until the Islesford Dock Restaurant opens (later in June, not sure when yet), then the shop will stay open until 6. A few new potters will be represented this summer- come check it out!
Here are a few pics of the shop so far. Not everyone has dropped off pots yet, so stay tuned for more work yet to come. Happily, no damage to the dock/shop like last year. It is a pleasure to be back and hope to see you soon!

Packing pots and studio things needed for opening up Islesford Pottery in June! Not sure of which day exactly but I'll post when I know. Likely around June 2 , 10-4, or by chance if I am there puttering around getting ready before that. Can't wait to get rolling and see you all! We will have a new co-potter there this summer you will want to meet--Piper Smith--with her fun, colorful earthenware work covered with flowers, plants, lemons, berries, and more. See ya soon!

Thanks for a wonderful summer season, yet again. Closed up now, and already looking forward to seeing you all next June! My shop is well prepared for winter high tides, (the floor WILL get wet!) but hoping for no storms anything close to last year! Be well my friends!
