If you’re a new-ish reseller, you might be overwhelmed! With the endless amount of opinions out there—What to sell and how to sell it. Navigating cross listing tools, learning all the seller platforms, sourcing, listing, becoming a professional photographer and master packer and shipper- it’s a lot!

But is it worth it?

I’ve mentioned this before…we didn’t just wake up one day and decide to become resellers. It was never a dream of ours. My husband has been casually buying and selling sports collectibles for many years…But…We both have day jobs and that probably won’t change any time soon. Our “why” has turned into—because it’s something we have fun doing together!

This journey began for us in our 50’s when our parents sadly started passing away and our home started filling with all their stuff. We spent the better part of the last several years cleaning out their estates. Emotionally, and physically, that was hard. Selling for us was a solution to avoid becoming hoarders….and now going out into the wild to find unique, antique, collectible, vintage stuff to sell is something my husband and I absolutely love doing together- but we tightly control inventory and avoid having a death pile.

Making extra money got us hooked, and becoming “everything” sellers just happened naturally, but man, did I have to learn a LOT along the way.

Deciding to stick with this was definitely a choice we don’t regret. Whatever your reason for starting, I’m just here to encourage you to not give up! Stay at it and enjoy yourself. Most importantly, if what you’re doing isn’t working, learn as much as you can and be prepared to pivot.

Even now, we get just as excited to sell a $14 cheese grater as we do a $300 vase. Every day is a new adventure and an opportunity to learn something. I’m including a couple of pictures of recently sold items - Notice the vast array of inventory. The key is “Do Your Research!” before you buy and do NOT pass something up just because everyone else is. Uneducated people leave money on the table every day. People buy used towels for good money, y’all. Seriously.

As you learn- you will make mistakes. You will have slow selling days. You will question your life decisions! You will be tired after putting in all the work…And that’s ok! Hold on to your “why” and for the love of all things holy——

Keep pushing, and keep moving forward and enjoy the ride.

When you’re clearing estates, there’s nothing you won’t consider selling. We’ve made about a grand this week selling everything from clothes, a motorized scooter, a DVD/Blue Ray/Disc player, medical supplies to cast iron pans. And just listed these old little dogs because hey, why not!!

Some resellers only list items that will give them a high dollar return. For us, any profit is worth celebrating. But also finds new homes for all of these things - big and small- our parents left behind that would otherwise have us on an episode of Hoarders if we kept it all.

Been making changes that have made a huge difference in our profits!

Cross Listing: Nifty is amazing. There’s no way I’d have time as a part time reseller to do everything it does for me. Well worth the money, but still learning different platforms, and that’s ok!

eBay official “store” launched: By doing this, I’m saving in selling fees and listing more stuff, can run sales on a regular basis and sales instantly increased. Wish I would have done it sooner.

Death pile: I’ve been on a mission to list like a mad woman and it’s paying off. Sometimes we have to quit buying and put in the work to list what we have on hand.

Inventory: Items are carefully stored, numbered, in totes and easily accessible.

Supplies and shipping: I’ve organized our shipping station so we can have a nice, organized, dedicated space to pack orders.

But the best thing is I’m enjoying this journey with my husband! We may have come in to this honestly by initially selling items from our parents estates, but now it’s feeling like a business we can be proud of.

Happy reselling!

Our shipping station just got a face lift! Not pictured are beautifully organized boxes by size. We turned our entire basement into our reselling station over the last couple of months. More pictures to come as we continue to improve our space.

Show me your work station. I’d love to get more ideas on how to stay organized!

To say I’m disappointed is an understatement, folks. I cut out Hulu so I could afford Nifty. Sacrificed binge watching my favorite shows (without ads mind you) to focus on listing and reaping the rewards.

Cross listing is what everyone said to do. Everyone. If I wanted to scale my business and not spend all my time online doing it manually- it was the only choice. So I added almost my entire eBay inventory to Poshmark and was super excited! Got my packing material ready for (at the very least) a steady flow of sales that would be rolling in!

But after 30 days nothing. Well, one thing. Yep. One single sale.

Did I break something? Does Poshmark not like me? Does my stuff suck? Is there a secret to this I don’t know about?

eBay is going steady just like always- now hesitant to add Depop and Etsy. Even considering canceling Nifty. I mean, if I’m not even going to make enough to pay for it then why bother!?

Any advice? Tips? Words of wisdom?

Reselling is not for the weak, that’s for sure.

Slow and steady wins the race….At least that’s what I keep telling myself as a VERY part time reseller.

We have decided to just go for it and start selling on different platforms using Nifty AI. Trying not to overwhelm ourselves with learning the ropes outside of our main eBay platform- we decided to start with Poshmark! Very excited to get this going but also a little terrified at the same time!

What are your best tips for running a successful Poshmark closet?

Holy crap, we’re just 4 shy of 500 followers. This past month has been a whirlwind and if I’m being honest, I’ve not been paying attention, battling some health issues.

Been listing like a madwoman, though . Found time somewhere in between emergency rooms, unplanned surgery and an iron infusion…my motto has been “NO EXCUSES!”

The upside to being at home recovering has been that I finally got through a big chunk of the death pile of clothes that have been giving me dirty looks for the last few months. The downside is that I have not been sourcing and there’s nothing super cool zleft to list!

I see a garage sale marathon in my near future!

What’s your game plan for when you’re unable to go out into the wild and shop til you drop? Because I have seriously great intentions to get out there but am probably not going to be able to for a little while longer until I’m stronger.

Pic of my adorable 17yr old daughter who would absolutely blow a gasket if she saw this. Big props to her for holding the fort down for her mama and always helping us manage our inventory!
