Howdy, friends!

I have both good and bad news to share with you today.

First off, garlic is back in stock at Sarah's Seed Shop! We have German Hardneck and a limited supply of Elephant Garlic available while supplies last.

Now for the bad news. After a lot of consideration, we've made the difficult decision to close down Sarah's Seed Shop.

As you all know, we've been committed to keeping our prices low. However, due to the time and cost of running a small business, we can no longer afford to run the shop on a part-time basis; and, to do it full-time, we would have to raise prices far beyond anything we are willing to charge.

With this in mind, we're running a Closing Sale for as long as supplies last. All seed packets are priced at $0.25 and $0.50... get yours by visiting the link in the comments!

“Well, what with all that pamperin’, Princess Cauliflower started thinkin’ pretty high o’ herself. ‘Why, miss Cauli,’ she would say, ‘you must be the prettiest flower in the whole world to deserve such care!’ And she really believed it too.

“But one day, after the farmers’d come to water her, she caught a glimpse of her reflection in a puddle and shrunk back in horror. Why, she wasn’t pretty at all–she wasn’t even a flower! There were no pretty pink petals, no delicate stamens–just big, blotchy, white lumps! She pulled her leaves tight around the lumps, cryin’ in disappointment and shame. Surely the farmers were mistaken to care for her as they did–what value could such an ugly creature possibly have?”

"Broccoli is cantankerous as an east wind to grow," Papa admitted. "But, my dear girl, let me ask you this: what if young Caldin were a plant?"

I stopped mid-stretch. Felt a tear prick my eye. Would I till Caldin under like some troublesome broccoli plant–just because he needed extra tendin’ and carin’ for? I glanced at Papa, but he’d gone back to waterin’ the broccoli.

"I already mentioned Hidal’s flask o’ rainwater—remember? He’s the one who Papa says poured rainwater in one o’ our wells centuries ago. Papa believes it, and I do too, but we don’t know for sure—ain’t no way o’ knowin’. But why else could we grow so much in a world o’ brown and yellow? Water’s life—for us and the plants."

“Days and nights passed–for, you see, when vegetables race, it takes them many days to get to the finish line. With each day and each night, Radish pulled ahead of the competition. Still he ran–farther and faster, getting bigger and stronger all the time, always lookin’ ahead to that field of loose, dark soil that would help him grow up quicker.

At last, after about thirty days, he saw the finish line. He ran faster and faster still, racing across it long before any of the other vegetables. The spectators at the finish line cheered. Young Radish had proven he was the fastest of them all!"
