We were almost “born” on the same day… just one day apart in our grand openings! Even if we’re a day late posting this, the celebration is still well deserved!

Happy 5 Years to our neighbors across the street, Scooter’s Coffee!

A special thank you to our to childhood friend, Randy Mumm, for investing in our hometown and being part of the growth of downtown Independence. Here’s to many more years ahead!

Indee RAGBRAI is looking for host families for riders on Thursday, July 23 and we’re happy to help. Look for this sign in front of our store and scan the code for more info. You can open just a corner of your yard, your driveway, as much or as little as you’d like. You can also just stop in the store and talk to Shelly, Nate or Will. We hosted in our home in 2007 and 2014 and had a blast doing it.Naturally, We’re hosting again in 2026! Happy 5 Year Anniversary to us!

5 years ago today, 5/27/21, we held our breath, hung the bright yellow “NOW OPEN” banner outside our door, and unlocked the doors to The Brick Kitchen for the very first time. 💛

What started with equal parts excitement, exhaustion, and cardboard boxes has grown into something far bigger than we ever imagined. Thank you for supporting small business, shopping local, attending classes, tasting new flavors, sharing posts, and making our store part of your lives these last 5 years.

Because life happens in the kitchen. It’s where recipes are passed down, celebrations begin, late night talks unfold, coffee is poured, and memories are made around the table. THANK YOU for letting The Brick Kitchen be a small part of those moments in your homes and lives these past 5 years!

Five years ago on 5/27/21, The Brick Kitchen opened its doors for the very first time.

But this building’s story began long before ours. The floor beneath the north side of our store once served as the stage floor of Kings Hall Opera House, built in 1876. This year, those original floors (and building) turn 150 years old!

Over time, the building was converted into warehouse space, and the floor by the warehouse doors, which is now our main entrance, had become damaged and covered with plywood. During our renovation, we pulled up those worn coverings and brought new life back into the space.

Jason Beatty crafted our entryway floor using reclaimed wood from an old high school gym floor, blending history from two different places into one beautiful entrance. He also varnished the entire store space.

These photos show the before, during, and after of a transformation we tackled ourselves with dust, determination, and countless late nights.

What was once worn down and hidden is now one of our favorite parts of the store.

Thank you for being part of these first five years of The Brick Kitchen. ❤️

5 years ago today, on 5/23/21, with the help of family and friends, we were putting the final touches on The Brick Kitchen and frantically unpacking products before opening our doors on 5/27/21.

What started as a dream quickly became something so much bigger thanks to the incredible support of our community, family, and friends.

We’ll be sharing more photos this week as we celebrate The Brick Kitchen’s 5th anniversary. Thank you for being part of our story!
