🌼 The Flower That Thinks Drought Is a Hobby 🌼
Some plants need rich soil, perfect watering, and constant encouragement.
Engelmann’s Daisy looked at that list and said, Nah, I’m good.
Have you ever grown a plant that thrived mostly because you forgot about it? Tell us below! 👇
Engelmann’s Daisy (Engelmannia peristenia) is a long-blooming perennial from the Great Plains that pumps out cheerful yellow flowers from late spring until frost. It’s tough, drought tolerant, pollinator friendly, and surprisingly happy in many of the challenging conditions we deal with here in Cache Valley.
Why we love it:
🌼 Blooms from late spring until frost
🐝 Attracts bees and butterflies
💧 Extremely drought tolerant once established
🌞 Loves full sun
🦌 Moderate deer resistance
🌱 Handles poor soils better than most flowering perennials
🏔 Cache Valley Garden Guide
💧 Water Needs: Drought Tough
Deep water every 14–21 days once established.
☀️ Light: Full Sun
📏 Size: 2–3 ft tall × 1–1.5 ft wide
❄️ Hardiness: Zone 5–10
🦌 Deer Resistance: Moderate
🐝 Pollinator Value: Excellent
🌿 Native to Utah: No
Cache Valley Tip:
This is a great choice for hot, dry spots where sprinklers don’t always reach. If you have heavy clay soil, mix in compost and plant slightly high to improve drainage.
🫎 Moose Logic:
Some flowers are divas.
Engelmann’s Daisy is the gardener equivalent of that reliable old pickup that starts every morning and never complains.
🌱 First-Year Tip:
Water more often while roots establish. Use the Finger Test—if the soil is dry 2–3 inches down, it’s time to water. Most drought tolerance develops in Year 2.
Would you plant this in your garden, or do you already have a tough-as-nails perennial that refuses to quit? 🌼👇
