I was cleaning and rearranging my sewing room when I came across the first Tea Cake Kids dress I ever made. This character was my first idea when I took it to Lee Triggs for advice. I went back to the drawing board and “Tea Cake Kids” as you know it was born. I looked through my photo book of all the years I’ve exhibited at conferences, festivals, schools, expos, and anywhere I could promote my clothing line of children of color. I have done a lot of creative work over the years, backpacks, fur vests, jackets, dresses, t-shirts, coloring book, water bottles, decorated baby rooms, and even made uniforms for a school. I am grateful to God for giving me a great gift and helping me to continue this journey of promoting positive self esteem in our children of color. It is very important to see images of yourself in a positive light. I started in 1990, when there were very few images of our children, but today we do have more choices than back then. I am happy to say, as one follower of many years said, that “Tea Cake Kids” was the first black clothing line. I can’t think of one before me, so I think she was right. All praises go to God!! If he hadn’t given me the vision it would not have been. I thank all my supporters over the years, you all made “Tea Cake Kids” a success. I could not have done it without y’all, all over these United States and Canada. I truly appreciate all of was I sit back and remember. I continue to provide “Tea Cake Kids” to the public just visit my website at www.teacakekids.com
