You can have your Green Holo Laser Psychedelic Thermonuclear Prizm Patch Auto #’d to 99. I’ll take Dwayne Rudd in an actual Viking helmet any day.

A few days late on this one - Eric ‘Sleepy’ Floyd (who is super underrated, incidentally) dropped 39 in a half in a playoff game against the Lakers on May 10, 1987 and 39 years (and 1 day 😁) later, Donovan Mitchell tied Floyd’s record against the Pistons. 🥱 🏀

A friendly reminder to all that suffer from recency bias: Victor Wenbanyama is a great 2-way player. Already a DPOY. He may win a chip this year. Hey, he may eventually go down as one of the best players in NBA history. BUT he still has a long way to go to be as good as The Admiral 🫡

As promised 😁

You know, it doesn’t always translate - success at a small school to similar success in a professional league - but when you average 27 and 15 on 53% shooting your Senior year, it’s clear you can ball 🏀

Jack Wayne Sikma chose NAIA school Illinois Wesleyan over D1 programs and became one of the best ever at that level. Drafted 8th overall by Seattle in 1977, it was evident early on that Sikma’s game was unlike other 7-footers in his era. A post genius with a beautiful shooting touch, Sikma was the original “stretch-5” and the forerunner of players such as Dirk Nowitzki and Nikola Jokic.

Sikma’s induction to the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2019 was as much about being a true pioneer as his solid, consistent play.

🚨 🐰 Rabbit Hole Warning! ⚠️

While going through a box of old hockey cards, I came across this gem - ‘93 Classic Hockey Draft Barry Richter card. Side Note: One of my favorite types of cards to collect are players in their Badger uniforms 🦡

Anyway, I saw the last name and the school and I thought to myself, “I wonder if that is Pat Richter’s son?” Yup, I was right.

Pat Richter, as any Badger fan will tell you, was the University of Wisconsin Athletic Director for 14 years in the 1990s and early 2000s. He was responsible for hiring legendary head coaches Barry Alvarez, Dick Bennett, and Bo Ryan, who led, respectively, the Badgers’ football and basketball teams into national prominence.

Richter Sr. himself was an elite athlete in football and was drafted 7th overall by Washington, playing eight seasons in the NFL at Tight End and Punter (!) before returning to Madison where he spent a 17-year career at Oscar Mayer prior to taking the Wisconsin AD job.

Barry Richter played five seasons in the NHL as well as several years overseas for various professional teams. Son is a Madison Sports Hall of Famer while Dad is enshrined in the College Football Hall of Fame.

Alfonso Johnson, Jr. (who goes by Buck) pictured with Earvin Johnson, Jr. (who goes by Magic, but one of his Basketball Reference nicknames is ‘Buck’). So, it’s a card of Buck Johnson with ‘Buck’ Johnson. I think 🤔

Please tell me his nickname was “The Wallet” 🤣
