Truth Bomb!
When gas prices spike, it isn’t the CEOs who feel it first. It’s the coffee shop owner watching delivery fees eat the week’s profit. The florist calculating whether she can still afford to drive to the wholesaler. The baker who stays up later just to break even, or the little customizing shop (yeah, us) that pours all its energy into delivering superior product.
And now, people are strapped—really strapped. Every dollar has to count. So the instinct is to pull back, to default to the big box store or the delivery app with the lowest advertised price.
But here’s the hard truth: Amazon and Walmart will survive a slow season. They’ll dip, then rebound. Your neighborhood bookstore, hardware store, or diner won’t. They don’t have shareholders or bailouts. They have rent, utility bills, and employees who are also your neighbors.
Spending locally when you can isn’t charity. It’s choosing who you want to still be there when prices finally drop. Because if we only chase cheap during the hard times, the only ones left will be the ones who never needed us in the first place.
When value isn't recognized, cheap prices win and corporations become more powerful!
Sincerely,
