Sometimes, a Little Victory means recognizing when an animal is truly struggling.

Nine-year-old Lucy is struggling in the Cat House.

She spends much of her time hiding. Unfamiliar people frighten her, the activity around her is overwhelming, and at times, the stress has even made it difficult for her to eat comfortably.

Lucy is safe here, but safe and thriving are not the same thing.

Part of our responsibility at Little Victories is to pay attention when our animals tell us something isn't working. We then advocate for what they need, even when the answer is something we cannot provide inside these walls.

For Lucy, that answer is a quiet home.

We have seen glimpses of who she is when the fear lets go to trust a gentle friend. She relaxes in familiar arms, waiting for them to carry her away. Lucy needs someone willing to give her more of those moments. She needs patience and the freedom to adjust without expectations or a deadline.

We don't know exactly who Lucy will become outside the shelter, but we want her to have the chance to find out. That would be a pretty big victory.
