A burst of color in the understory, the Chestnut‑sided Warbler. This little one paused just long enough while hopping onto the branch, showing off those bold chestnut flanks and that bright yellow crown.
Fun fact: This species thrives in young, regenerating forests and shrublands, and its population actually increased after early settlers cleared land, a rare bird that benefited from habitat change.

A flash of fire in the canopy, the Blackburnian Warbler, one of the most striking migrants to pass through Michigan each spring. That glowing orange throat is unmistakable, even from high in the treetops.
Fun fact: Blackburnians often forage at the very tops of tall maples and hemlocks, making low, eye‑level views like this a rare treat.
