Sewing and quilting have been passions of mine for many years. I have a retreat center, large classroom and am adding more classes everyday. I love making custom quilts, including t-shirt quilts or quits from clothing.

Fabric panels are a great way to make a quilt in a hurry and send a message to someone you love. Snips of Thread in Humeston, Iowa has a wonderful selection of panels that makes it easy to achieve those goals!

Today we are featuring a patriotic quilt panel. The colors are brilliant and is made of high-quality cotton fabric made by David Textiles. The name of the panel is Buck Wear and is 44” wide by 54” long. A couple of borders and you have a quilt top finished!

The cost is $15.50 plus actual postage. Call the shop at 641-877-6077 and we will take your order over the phone. We are taking orders between 9AM-3PM, Tuesday - Saturday or leave a message and we will call you back!

Doodle-Doo Retreat (Fabric Collage)
COME and JOIN the FUN!

Who: Sponsored by Snips of Thread, LLC in Humeston, Iowa
When: March 17, 18 and 19, 2023
Where: The Sew Shed, Lucas, Iowa
What: We are making the rooster!

The retreat will begin on Friday morning. Arrive between 9AM and 10AM. We will begin instruction on the collage at 10. The retreat will end midafternoon on Sunday, March19, 2023.

Cost for the weekend is $265. This includes room for 2 nights, food for the entire week-end (meals, snacks and drinks), all fabric needed for the project (over 50 fabrics in the kit), the Steam-A-Seam interfacing, pattern ease to create your collage on, and the pattern as copyrighted by Laura Heine.

Extra supplies available for purchase are a fine pointed serrated edged scissors by Karen Kay Buckley and an applique pressing mat or you can bring these items with you.

To bring with you: Small iron, travel sized ironing mat or board, small cutting mat, rotary cutter 45MM or smaller, mechanical pencil(s) and 8” scissors to use in general cutting. No sewing machine is needed for this retreat.

Registration is limited to 8 students. Reservation can be made by contacting Snips of Thread, LLC. Payment at the time of registration will guarantee you a spot! Note: Any food allergies need to be noted with your registration.

Snow, cold, wind and being stuck at home! Some flee this winter weather, while other die-hard Midwesterners EMBRACE what it has to offer...time to sew, knit, quilt, crochet, in general enjoy our favorite craft!

Humeston, Iowa got about 8 inches of snow yesterday and I spent the day at home working with wool! It is my latest joy filled exploration! Since beginning a few months ago, I have taken classes, made many candle mats, read a lot about wool fabric, experienced the joys (and defeats of felting wool) and jumped into this art with both feet. I am no expert, but I am excited to expand my skills, learn more while enjoying the process of doing wool applique and finding like-minded people to join me!

Starting this Thursday, February 23, 2023, Snips of Thread will sponsor a group EVERY THURSDAY for those folks interested in the art of wool applique. We will meet from 4pm to 5:30pm or 6:30pm to 8pm (You choose the time that works best for you. You can come every Thursday or only one or two times, it is up to you). If you are coming but are going to be late, please text Linda at 515-360-6901 and let her know.

We will use this time to teach the beginner skills needed to get started doing wool applique and to find some experienced fellow “Woolies” to help us expand our knowledge and skills. There is no cost to come! If you want to learn there will be beginner kits available for purchase. Free instruction with purchase of the kit.
