Did you know that the sponsor donated vehicles to be used in the series?
One model of Miss Jane's red Chrysler had its windshield removed in order to film scenes in the car without worrying about the glare and reflections. You can often see it whenever it pulled up in front of the mansion.

One of the most interesting bits of classic TV trivia involves Bea Benaderet, The Beverly Hillbillies, and Petticoat Junction.

Many fans forget that before becoming beloved as Kate Bradley on Petticoat Junction, Bea actually played Pearl Bodine — Jethro’s mother — on The Beverly Hillbillies.

Because producer Paul Henning created both shows, viewers often wondered how the family connections worked whenever characters crossed between the Clampett world and Hooterville.

After Bea left The Beverly Hillbillies to star in Petticoat Junction, she became so strongly identified as Kate Bradley that many fans barely remembered she had once been Jethro's mother.

Sadly, Bea became ill during the final years of Petticoat Junction and passed away in 1968.

After her death, the show did not try to replace Kate Bradley.

Instead, producers introduced a completely new character played by June Lockhart — Dr. Janet Craig.

Some viewers mistakenly thought June Lockhart was replacing Bea, but that wasn't actually the case.

Dr. Craig was brought in as a new character, an older and respected woman in the community who helped guide the Bradley family after Kate's passing.

“June Lockhart wasn't replacing Kate Bradley — nobody could. She was helping Hooterville move forward.”

And to many fans, Bea Benaderet remains unforgettable in both roles — Jethro's outspoken mother Pearl Bodine and Hooterville's beloved Kate Bradley.

In early 1973, not long before Irene Ryan’s health began to seriously decline, she and Buddy Ebsen shared what would unknowingly become one of their final visits together.

For more than nine years, they had played Granny and Jed Clampett — arguing, laughing, and loving each other like family on *The Beverly Hillbillies*. Off-screen, there was a genuine affection and respect between them that had only grown stronger with time.

That day, they spent hours reminiscing about the old filming days, the cast, the fans, and the little mountain family that had changed all their lives.

As the visit came to an end, neither of them had any reason to think it would be their last.

They talked about getting together again soon.

They spoke about taking a trip and seeing the countryside they both loved so much — the kind of quiet rural places that reminded them of the world that inspired the Clampetts.

There were smiles, handshakes, and promises.

As Irene prepared to leave, Buddy reportedly hugged her and said:

> “Reenie, next time we meet, we’ll go see those old hills again.”

She smiled and agreed.

But life had other plans.

Just a few months later, Irene Ryan passed away on April 26, 1973.

The trip never happened.

The reunion never came.

And the old hills they planned to visit together remained only a shared dream.

For fans, it is a heartbreaking reminder that sometimes the last goodbye doesn’t feel like a goodbye at all. Sometimes it feels like an ordinary afternoon between old friends who fully expect to see each other again.

And perhaps that is why the memory feels so poignant.

Jed and Granny got one last chance to laugh together.

They just didn’t know it was the last one.

The famous truck was actually a heavily modified 1921 Oldsmobile Model 43 Roadster. By the time the series began in 1962, it was already more than 40 years old. Because of its age, it required regular maintenance throughout the show's run.

Because it became one of the show's most valuable props, the production crew reportedly took great care of it. In many scenes, the truck wasn't driven long distances but was carefully positioned and filmed to avoid unnecessary wear and tear.
