Butterfly valves, just as with ball valves, are quarter-turn valves that can be easily shut off or on by rotating the handle which may or may not be connected to the steam through a gearbox. This setup is compact and can be used with large diameter pipes. It allows for throttle operation and is suitable to handle slurry substances.
