Freer Gun Shop Freer Gun Shop is family owned and has been in operation for over 50 years.

We are staffed by experienced gunsmiths with a combined experience of well over 112 years. We specialize in repairing, restoring, and appraising shotguns and rifles and carry a range of superb shotguns and rifles for sale. All of our repairs carry a one year mechanical warranty and we have the lowest return rate (less than 1%), proving we do it right first time! We perform warranty repairs for Wi******er, Browning, and Re*****on and serviced our 125,000th firearm back in 2003.

We have been extremely busy these last few months trying to avoid the inevitable, but unfortunately Annette has decided to retire.

If you have any property still in storage or that has had work completed by us, Browning, or another vendor we represent, please reach out to me so that we can schedule a date and time for you to retrieve it.

Remember than any pickup of storage or a consignment will require a 4473, and any delay on an FBI NICS background check will require a second appointment once the check has been either approved or timed out due to the system outages they've had and the checks not being completed.

We are not accepting any incoming repairs or service, and are no longer open to the general public.

We also are not anticipating clearancing out any unsold inventory, as the majority of our inventory was consigned by private collectors and has been returned, and any remaining owned inventory will be returned to our family collection.

Side note: Browning/Wi******er has not indicated to us which shop locally, if any, they plan on awarding a contract as their replacement warranty and repair center.

Oh man, I haven't posted an update in some time.

I haven't been able to get over to the shop to take pictures of them, because I was prepping the house for a hurricane that thankfully missed us, but Annette told me we have 28Ga and a couple 20Ga shotguns in stock!

Beginning Monday, April 20th, we will be reopening to accept incoming work, by appointment.

You bring it in, we fix it, clean it, or upgrade it, and we'll call you to come pick it up.

Also remember that Hurricane Season is coming! We can provide a typewritten appraisal of your fi****ms for your homeowner's or flood insurance policy, ready with your firearm when service work is completed.

Update: We are accepting and completing work on shotguns and rifles again. We are also open to accept storage and offer appraisal services for your collection. Remember that hurricane season is coming, and most insurers only cover guns for up to $500 without a written appraisal!

Ask anyone who came to us after Hurricane Harvey how well having to take what insurance "estimated" their guns were worth worked out for them.

Also ask them about how much they loved the work we did to restore what could be saved!

Call Annette for details on completion schedules for new work, please remember to allow for extra time when the job requires rebluing, wood refinishing, or extensive rust removal.

We appreciate you guys being so patient while we did our best to navigate the legal and safety waters during this stay at home order.

As shutdowns, lockdowns, and closures continue nationwide, I'm going to be honest here.

While we feel that our rights are as important as anything can be, and the right to self defense is paramount to that, what we offer at Freer Gun Shop does not fall under the umbrella of "essential services."

While neither City of Houston or Harris County have yet declared a shelter in place, we anticipate that they may at some point soon. As such, we are unsure about what our operating hours will be in the near future. We have, of course, taken all of our usual disaster precautions to lock down and secure the property when we're not present.

We are looking into a call forwarding option to field questions. Annette will answer any question you have to the best of her ability.

As Texas heats up, I'm more worried about heat, humidity, sweat, and gummed up deposits from lubricants or powder.

JUST LIKE YOUR BODY, your gun can develop poor health if not taken care of.

Fortunately, unlike those crying wolf and panicking, we're level headed adults!

Bring your guns in to have them cleaned and oiled to protect them as the heat and humidity continue to rise, and we'll ensure everything is in proper working order complete with a test fire! We even clean out the barrel again before giving it back to you.

Much like your own health and that of your car, the best care for your gun is preventative care! All summer long your A/C unit has attempted to keep the elements at bay, but heat and humidity have attacked your home and your guns.

Remember that a thin coat of oil can make all the difference, and that airflow is just as important!

If your guns aren't stored in a 24 hour climate controlled vault, make sure you invest in a dehumidifier bar, and open your safe from time to time to allow old stale air to escape and be replaced with new fresher air.

For those of you wondering, your humidity target should be between 30 and 40 percent. This is low enough to resist rust buildup, but high enough to protect wood from splitting.

So open up your safe, closet, or cabinet, check your guns for condition, and bring anything questionable in for our Clean and Oil service!
The firearm is completely stripped down to the very last part. All grease, oil, residue, and rust is removed from every part by a combination of power washing with solvents and wire wheel burnishing. Each part is checked according to factory specifications for wear, metal fatigue, or breakage and replaced as needed. This ensures your gun a long life and quality of life for you as a hunter or shooter!

We even specialize in water, fire, and smoke damage!
