Comfort zone... sometimes in life we go through the same old things, but when we push ourselves outside our comfort zones, pretty cool things happen. I was commissioned to make a necklace for a 30th anniversary, for a very special couple that I have known for about 35 years. My head was spinning with ideas to make, and I asked him what he was thinking about and he said a honey bee. It stopped me dead in my tracks... what the heck am I going to make??
I have been going through some things in my life, that is keeping me very busy and distracted during the week, and I have one weekend to come up with something very special... on Saturday morning I get up at 5:00 am to start creating the bee, and after 4 attempts, I nail it! Then I start thinking, what goes with a bee? And I put a flower with it, but it still needs something else, my head is spinning with ideas, I’ve sketched out 6 pictures, but nothing looks good enough and I sleep on it. The next morning I get up early and start working on it, and I think of a bee trail, in the shape of a heart for their anniversary. I put it all together and giggle to myself, because it looks really cute! I solder it all together throw it in my tumbler, when I pull it out a few hours later, I notice the heart from the bee trail (that I had spend 15 minutes creating with wire) moved a little in the tumbler, but I knew she would know what it was. I start putting the chain together and decide on a yellow citrine stone, flanked by black spinels to look like a bumble bee, and when I see it all together, I am filled with love and gratitude for two very special people! It was totally out of my comfort zone, but I’m thrilled with the one of a kind piece I created especially for Lori. Happy 30th anniversary Nick and Lori, I’m honored to have been asked to create something special for you.
