The 2000 Vanguard Tom Brady Rookie Card, numbered to 762. Bring on the green!! What kind of funkadelic design is this you ask? I asked the same question when I first saw it. No photo background, just a solid green to the borders with a white pixelated aura outline of Tom in his Shrine game uniform. Red, blue, and yellow on green 🤪. This card comes in a singular base version, no short prints or parallels.

There are 206 cards graded by Psa with 35 Gem (17%), and 542 cards graded by Beckett with 191 Gem(35%), one Pristine (0.2%), and 1 Black Label (0.2%). Thank you, Joe (), for allowing me the opportunity to acquire this amazing card!! Brady has only 4 different rookie year cards with Black Labels: The Black Diamond Gold, Bowman Chrome, Upper Deck Ionix, and Vanguard. This one really catches your eye, and it’s really grown on me over the years. NFS/NFT.

The 2000 Tom Brady Upper Deck Graded rookie card, numbered to 1,325. This card features Brady in his red Patriots practice jersey staring intently downfield against a blurred background and simple geometric card design. Every card in the 165 card set is numbered - cards 1-90 of vets numbered to 1,500, cards 91-135 of rookies numbered to 1,325 (the first 855 graded in SGC Blue Label), cards 136-155 rookie autos numbered to 500, and cards 156-165 rookie autos numbered to 250 (there are no Brady autos).

This is one of Brady’s upper level rookies, and the set is named Graded because there was 1 SGC graded card included in every pack, with 6 packs to a box. The boxes were double-walled, and having the graded card in a cardboard sleeve next to a 3-card foil pack ultimately well-protected the single cards from incidental damage. Thus, you will find significantly higher grades in both the PSA and BGS pop reports.

Of the 423 cards graded by PSA, there are 130 Mint (31%) and 232 Gem (55%), and of the 415 cards graded by BGS, there are 142 Mint (34%), 224 Gem (54%), and 12 Pristine (2.9%). Pictured above are my PC of 6 of the 12 Pristines.

[PC Update] The 2000 Tom Brady Upper Deck Black Diamond Gold parallel /500. This beautiful card featuring Brady in his red practice gear against the clean monochrome background design really makes this card pop! Pictured here are a BGS true gem numbered 500/500, the pop 1 Gold Pristine, and the pop 1 Black Label. Special thanks to for giving me the opportunity to own this magnificent card!

The Gold /500 has 153 cards graded at Beckett with 78 gem (51%), one Gold Pristine, and one Black Label. There are 75 Golds graded at PSA with 28 gem (37%). The difference between the Gold version and the base is the gold foiling used for the Black Diamond logo, rookie bullseye design, upper deck logo, and player name, and of course the serial numbering /500 stamped on the “Ro” of the word Rookie. Very happy to finally own the Gold Pristine and the Black Label in my PC. Never, ever, ever, for sale or for trade! 😂

The 2000 Tom Brady SPx rookie card comes in a base version numbered to 1,350 and a short-printed Spectrum version numbered to 25. Early on, this card was widely considered Brady’s #3 rookie card after the Contenders Auto and SP Authentic /1,250, but in recent years both the Showcase and Limited rookies have gained in popularity making it more of a top 5 card to some collectors.
The SPx features a clean design with Brady in his Pats practice gear in mid-throwing motion. There are no borders on the card, no background photo, and only blue and white in the card design. Aside from the gold SPX logo and reflective “SPX” background print, there is very little to distract from Brady, which makes it a great card in my opinion.
There are 595 copies of the SPx base graded by PSA with 113 gem (19%), and 620 graded by Beckett with 220 gem (35%) and 7 Pristine (1%). The Spectrum version has 24 cards graded by PSA with 3 gem (12.5%), and 15 cards graded by Beckett with 5 gem (33%). Note that the Spectrum is numbered to 25, so there are a lot of resubmits in the pop reports. What is your vote for Brady’s #3 rookie card?

The 2000 Marc Bulger/Tom Brady Playoff Contenders Round Numbers Autograph Card and Gold version /60. This card highlights Brady’s selection in Round 6 of the 2000 draft, selection #199 (Bulger was Round 6, #168). It is a great card for the historical perspective of Brady’s draft position, with a prominent “6” on the card design, and along with the base Contenders and Champ Ticket are the only rookie year autograph cards featuring Brady in his pro uniform. The gold version is die cut and foil finished, which is a great effect combined with his pose and centered closeup. Note that Brady is actually on the back of this card because of his lower draft selection, with Bulger on the front, so collectors need to request the card be slabbed in reverse in order to feature him on the front of the slab. Finally, these cards are notorious for tough auto grades because of Bulgers wispy “M” in Marc and “l” in Bulger. Brady’s auto is generally bold and solid.

The Base Round Numbers has 70 cards graded Psa with 1 Gem (1.4%, no PSA/DNA grade), and 133 cards graded Bgs with 6 gem (4.5%, 3 with 10 autos and 3 with 9 autos). The Gold version has 35 cards graded Psa with no gems and 8 mint (23%), and 41 cards graded Bgs with 1 gem (2.4%) and 18 mint (44%). Shown above are 3 of the 6 Bgs Gem base cards, and one of the Psa mint gold version cards. This card was highlighted to me in my Brady chat group for its draft significance, and I appreciate their enthusiastic support as I built this collection.

The 2000 Upper Deck Black Diamond Tom Brady rookie card and parallel Black Diamond Gold /500. This card has a very loyal following. Featuring Brady in his Pats practice gear, the clean black and white background design really makes his red jersey pop on this card.

There are 1011 base cards graded at Beckett with 473 gem (47%) and 8 graded Pristine (0.8 % - 4 pictured above), and 1147 graded at PSA with 313 gem (27%). It’s one of Brady’s easier rookies to gem, but still very tough to find in Bgs 10. The Gold /500 has 152 cards graded at Beckett with 78 gem (51%), one Pristine (0.7% - pictured above), and one Black Label (owned by tb12_cards). There are 67 Golds graded at PSA with 28 gem (42%). The difference between the Gold version and the base is the gold foiling used for the Black Diamond logo, rookie bullseye design, upper deck logo, and player name, and of course the serial numbering /500 stamped on the “Ro” of the word Rookie. Very happy to have finally found the Gold Pristine!

The 2000 Fleer Showcase Tom Brady rookie card comes in a base version numbered to 2,000, parallel Showcase Firsts numbered to 250 and Showcase Legacy numbered to 20, and a Showcase Masterpiece 1/1. This card has been increasing in popularity over the years, and most collectors have it in Brady’s top 5 rookie cards, and challenging SPX for number three after Contenders and SP Authentic. Who can blame them - Pats uniform, a unique holo background with a ghost-like TB, and as a result of the unique finish a super low population in high grade. And I mean super low!!

For the 2000 Fleer Showcase family, even acquiring the base card in high grade is truly an accomplishment. There were 185 base cards graded PSA with 1 Gem (0.5%) and 20 mint (11%), and 299 base cards graded BGS with 5 Gem (1.7%) and 50 mint (17%). Forget percentages, that’s just 76 cards in mint or better, with 6 gem between PSA and BGS. The first BGS graded gem was a pop 1 for the first decade after release. There are 36 horizontal Showcase Firsts graded PSA with 1 Gem and 6 mint, and 53 graded BGS with 8 mint. That’s just 15 cards to collect in mint or better. Finally the Showcase Legacy has 1 card graded mint at PSA out of 2, and 2 cards graded mint at BGS out of 8. You get the idea, these cards are incredibly difficult to collect in mint+. Ironically, the Masterpiece 1/1 is actually a 2/1 card with one graded BGS 8.5 and the other graded PSA authentic. Back in the day, one copy was held in reserve in case a replacement was necessary, and eventually the backup copy made it into circulation. PWCC video - http://YouTube.com/watch?v=p5nPuEYgBzM

Shown below are one of the five BGS gem base cards, two of the eight BGS mint Showcase Firsts including the earliest graded and highest subgrade “true mint”, one of the two mint BGS Legacies, and the pop1 BGS Legacy missing serial number.

A new Bowman Family picture to feature a new acquisition! The full Bowman writeup is in a previous post, but I want to showcase the BGS 10 Pristine Bowman paper base card. Special thanks to for allowing me to acquire this impossible card for the PC.
——-
The popular Bowman Chrome has 3,867 cards graded at Beckett, with 102 pristines and 2 black label pristines (labout 2.7% total). In comparison, the Base Bowman paper has 3,691 cards graded at Beckett, with just 3 pristines (0.08%). In fact, this is the only copy I can recall surfacing over the years. It has been a very long search for this card!

The Crown Royale series with the unique crown die-cut design and excessive foil detail. A mid-value card, this series has an unnumbered hobby rookie, unnumbered retail rookie, Draft Picks /499, Premiere Date /145, Limited /144, Autograph, Rookie Royalty, and Rookie Royalty die-cut /10.

I was excited to find recently the Pop1 Bgs 10 Pristine hobby version as well as a Psa 9 die-cut sample of the Rookie Royalty. Also pictured here is the uncut panel / printers proof of the Rookie Royalty.
