The 2000 Fleer Showcase Tom Brady rookie card comes in a base version numbered to 2,000, parallel Showcase Firsts numbered to 250 and Showcase Legacy numbered to 20, and a Showcase Masterpiece 1/1. This card has been increasing in popularity over the years, and most collectors have it in Brady’s top 5 rookie cards, and challenging SPX for number three after Contenders and SP Authentic. Who can blame them - Pats uniform, a unique holo background with a ghost-like TB, and as a result of the unique finish a super low population in high grade. And I mean super low!!

For the 2000 Fleer Showcase family, even acquiring the base card in high grade is truly an accomplishment. There were 185 base cards graded PSA with 1 Gem (0.5%) and 20 mint (11%), and 299 base cards graded BGS with 5 Gem (1.7%) and 50 mint (17%). Forget percentages, that’s just 76 cards in mint or better, with 6 gem between PSA and BGS. The first BGS graded gem was a pop 1 for the first decade after release. There are 36 horizontal Showcase Firsts graded PSA with 1 Gem and 6 mint, and 53 graded BGS with 8 mint. That’s just 15 cards to collect in mint or better. Finally the Showcase Legacy has 1 card graded mint at PSA out of 2, and 2 cards graded mint at BGS out of 8. You get the idea, these cards are incredibly difficult to collect in mint+. Ironically, the Masterpiece 1/1 is actually a 2/1 card with one graded BGS 8.5 and the other graded PSA authentic. Back in the day, one copy was held in reserve in case a replacement was necessary, and eventually the backup copy made it into circulation. PWCC video - http://YouTube.com/watch?v=p5nPuEYgBzM
