What an adventurous first day in our hives yesterday!! We realized we lost more hives which means we lost total of 6 hives. How devastating!! On the plus side, we were able to use our research hive and get 5 started! Woohoo!!!

First picture is one of the queens we saw. She is a beautiful black color which is first for us.

The second picture shows what happens if you leave extra space or extra space”things” in the hive for too long. They will put comb on it and fill with honey or brood! Bees use every bit of space they can, which is why you make it so there isn’t much space outside of the frames.

It’s time to get our smoker ready and fired up! Woohoo!!! Warm weather means time to crack open our hives and see how our bees are doing. Flowers are blooming and bees are collecting nectar to make the honey. Stay tuned!!
