Our journey started in 1987 when Rosella began experimenting with etching on glass to create personalized goblets for our wedding. What began as a simple project for our own wedding quickly grew into something much more, and by 1988, we opened Country Glass &

Crafts in Fryburg, Ohio. We offered custom glass and mirror cutting, along with engraving services for both retail and wholesale customers. In those early years, we used sandblasting to create beautifully etched graphics. However, each engraving required a single-use stencil, making the process quite time-consuming. We were determined to find a better way, and that’s when we discovered the world of laser engraving – a method that promised precision, efficiency and a way to drastically expand our creativity! Though we had to pause our dream in 1997 when we sold the business and relocated to Montana, the dream remained alive! In the fall of 2022, we both knew it was time to pick up where we left off. After careful research, we found the perfect laser engraving machine that could handle everything from delicate keepsakes to items as large as wine barrels – all without the need for disposable stencils. Today, By Design Laser Co. offers a much broader selection of personalized gifts, all crafted with the same passion for quality and attention to detail that has always defined us. Yesterday we had a project to engrave 127 Maple cutting boards. Each of these boards represents a new kitchen and the board is a gift from the cabinet company to their client.

I am impressed that there is no company logo anywhere. Here is why . . . . .

I have 3 questions for you.
1.If you were the recipient of a cutting board like this, would you ever forget where it came from?
2. What would you do/say if someone were to ask where you got it?
3. Which is the better marketing idea? Adding a company logo or have the client brag a little about the great company that gave the board?

This should be interesting . . . . .

If you have timber that needs harvesting and you have Gary take care of the project . . . . You just might end up with a bench or perhaps even 2 like the Hershberger family did - made with a tree from their property!

My laser is back up and running. When the focal lens gets too hot and splits into 4 pieces, it tends to throw a wrench into the gears!!
