Bette Davis in All About Eve (‘50).🍸

“I can think of no project that from the outset was as rewarding from the first day to the last. It is easy to understand why. It was a great script, had a great director, and was a cast of professionals all with parts they liked. It was a charmed production from the word go.” - Davis later said in her autobiography.

The “Queen of Tap,” Eleanor Powell, is remembered as one of the greatest dancers in musical history—and for good reason. 👑

Trained in ballet and acrobatics, Powell brought. Precision and lightness to her dancing that would later set her apart. Ironically, she initially disliked tap, finding it lacking in grace—just as it was beginning to take hold in American films

That changed when she began losing roles in New York because she couldn’t tap. Realizing her mistake she committed fully:

“Once I was identified as a tap dancer, that was it—no one had ever seen anything like it… I practiced constantly between shows.”

Drawing on her ballet foundation, she developed a style that was both powerful and refined—elevating tap into something strikingly elegant and entirely her own.

Unlike most film dancers of her era, Powell choreographed all her own routines, and while she worked alongside top talent, her most unforgettable performances were solos.
