Springfield Armory Bear Creek Arsenal
PSA and call to Gunmakers: QUALITY CONTROL MATTERS! CHAMBERS MATTER! WORN CHAMBER REAMERS ARE A LIABILITY! Just because a GO gage fits and a NO gage doesn't doesn't mean the chamber is right or even safe.

I present two case studies. A springfield SOCOM 16 and a Bear Creek upper in 300 blackout.

Let's start with the Bear Creek. Brand new budget upper chambered in 300 blackout. Customers states he put approximately 20 rounds through it and had a case separation. NOT CHOO CHOO ARMS AMMO. I don't normally do gunsmithing but I figured a threaded case extraction was the least I could do for a customer. Turns out it wasn't a stuck case but a bullet jacket and not an ammunition failure. A burr in the forcing cone (likely left over from chambering) stopped the bullet and blew the core out leaving the jacket lodged in the throat of the chamber. I couldn't get a cleaning jag through the barrel -it hard stopped at the burr. I can't imagine the pressure but I could read the head stamp on the bolt face.

Now the socom 16. Brand new springfield I purchased in 2020. Likely unprecedented demand lead to lapses in QC and worn tooling. A worn reamer used to cut my chamber leaves grooves in the brass so deep I'm surprised they extract at all and I'm just waiting on a stuck case. I don't know what condition the throat and forcing cone are in but I can't get it to shoot less than 5 inch groups.

I expect this out of Bear creek. But Springfield, you need to tighten up.
