Aloha friends, I would like to introduce you to Tia, the new shop owner!

Tia has deep roots in Hilo.  She lives in Pāpaʻikou and her family has been here since the plantation days.  Tia has lived away from Hawaiʻi for part of her life but has been home for many years now, because as you know, Hilo is where the heart is. ❤️

Tia has a deep love for all animals big and small, is deeply tied into the Hilo community and is particularly fond of Downtown Hilo’s unique culture.  In her free time, you can find her taking care of her dogs and driving her 4Runner through Keaukaha.  You may recognize her from Hulakai, Nālani’s neighboring shop in Downtown Hilo.

Tia brings a youthful, lighthearted fun vibe to Nālani and has been working on an exclusive t-shirt line that is just for you 🫶🏽

I’m so excited to see where she takes things in the future!  And I’m trusting that the Nālani community will be just as supportive of her as you have been for me, if not more.  I consider Tia to be my sister, and I hope you will come to love and adore her as I have.

Aloha friends, Nāpua here and I want to give you all a life update. You all know how much I love Nālani Farm Store. It’s been my sanctuary and has fulfilled so much in me and given me such a sense of purpose and connection to community.

Since the beginning of the year, there has been a tugging on my heart that it’s been time for a change, that change was coming. My response to that knowing was to soak in every bit of this beautiful life I have built for myself and to be ready to let go when the time came.

My friends, the time has come. And it couldn’t be more magical in how it’s all played out.

If you’ve been in the shop lately, you may have noticed changes, lots of fun new things happening, but also my absence. And I look forward to sharing more about that in our next post.

A message about the planners from Mahina Made:

I designed the first edition back in 2018. At the time, I couldn't find a planner that checked all the boxes for what I wanted - cute Hawaiian/local illustrations, simple Hawaiian language phrases, a layout where I could be fancy or basic in, and something undated so I didn't feel pressured to use it every single month in a row. So, I created it. Every year since then, I've come out with a new edition and they've sold so well. It turns out there are a LOT of people who were looking for the same type of planner. They make great gifts and there is no pressure to use it during a calendar year, an academic year, or even month after month because they are undated.   Nā Lā Maika'i translates to "The Good Days".

February is love month.  It’s also Hawaiian language month.  Our kūpuna held so much wisdom and much of that wisdom is reflected in our language, because language reflects a people’s culture and the way they see and interact with the world.
